He's bowled perfect games before, but this was Nate Johnson's first in a sanctioned event.
The Penn Yan Mustang Boy’s Bowling team had a perfect week in many ways last week. The Orange and Blue keglers racked up three more wins, two more shutouts, and even more impressive, Mustang kingpin Nate Johnson rolled a perfect 300 game against Wayne on Friday afternoon. The impressive string of Mustang successes have brought the Penn Yan bowlers to within 4 points of front-running Newark in the Finger Lakes East.
On Friday afternoon at Doug Kent’s Lakeside Lanes in Penn Yan, Nate Johnson scored his masterpiece against third place Wayne and sparked the Mustangs to a big 3-1 win. Johnson’s 300 game and 720 series lead Penn Yan. The Mustangs captured wins in the first and third games to pick up the team points. For the third time this season Penn Yan went over 3000 total pins outscoring the visiting Eagles 3159 to 3108. Dan Fox had games of 213 and 238, Anthony Gleason 237 and 214 for Penn Yan. Karl Fleming added a single game 225 and Steven Groom a 219 for the red hot Mustangs (43-9).
Earlier in the week, Penn Yan shut out Mynderse 4-0 in Penn Yan. Nate Johnson rolled a 639 series ( 233,225) to lead Penn Yan. Anthony Gleason added a 610 series (224). Dan Fox rolled a 234 single, Eric Pulver 231, and Steven Groom a 229 for the high-powered Mustang keglers.
The Penn Yan boys also scored a 4-0 shutout win over Marcus Whitman on Wednesday afternoon in Canandaigua. Anthony Gleason’s 620 series (243), Nate Johnson (212), Steven Groom (212), and Dan Fox (211) paced the Mustangs..
Jeremy Armison led Marcus Whitman with a 539 series (208).
The Penn Yan girls team fell to Mynderse 4-0 on Monday afternoon. Beth Shipman’s 464 series was tops for Penn Yan. Karen Hines added a 172 single game. On Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Mustangs scored a 3-1 win over host Marcus Whitman. Karen Hines rolled a 193 middle game and a 489 series for the Mustangs. Marcus Whitman was led by Jaimee Schweigert’s 532 series (191,171). Liz Roaix added a 171 single game.
The Wayne Eagles shut out the Penn Yan girls 4-0 on Friday afternoon in Penn Yan. Kara Sage rolled a 507 series for Penn Yan (15-37). Carey Pulver contributed a 187 single game.
The Dundee Keglers fell to first place Bloomfield 4-0 at Roseland Bowl in Hopewell on Monday afternoon. Devon Miller rolled a 509 series and Chris Capurso a 505 series to lead the Scotsmen (31-9). The Dundee girls team also fell to Bloomfield 4-0. Loren Marusarz contributed a 158 single game and Mary Rainis a 427 series for Dundee ( 27-9).
On Wednesday afternoon in Hopewell, both Dundee bowling teams registered 2-2 ties with Honeoye. For the girls team, Amanda Krause rolled a 502 series ( 195) and Shaila Goerski a 167 single game to pace the Lady Scots.
The boy’s team secured their 2-2 tie with Honeoye, winning the first game by 20 pins and the third game by three pins. Adam Miller’s 569 (201) and Gerry Naylor’s 209 single in the third game led Dundee ( 33-11).
In other local high school action, the Marcus Whitman boys team defeated Canandaigua 3-1. Andy Cornish’s 637 series (276) and Jeremy Armison single game 254 led the Wildcats.
The Whitman girls team fell to Canandaigua 4-0. Jaimee Schweigert 517 (179,191) and Liz Roaix 172 was Whitman’s best.
