Velda Mary (Daggett) Mortensen, died on September 24, 2010.
Friends and family called from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 27 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. Her funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28 at the Branchport United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Branchport Cemetery.

Velda was born on Oct. 18, 1914, the daughter of Earl Wayne and Jennette Covert Daggett. She was a homemaker and caregiver and later in life a home health aide. She worked and retired from Michael Sterns Clothing Factory. She helped run the family farm and did vineyard work for many years. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
She leaves five children, Karl (Barbara) Mortensen, Earl (Sarah) Mortensen, Barb (Edward) Gifford, Kay Albert, and Ruth (George) Robbins; 23 grandchildren, James Mortensen, David Mortensen, Nancy Mascia, Earl Thomas Mortensen, Dorothy D'Amato, Brian Mortensen, Cheri Fitzpatrick, Earl Duane Mortensen, Chris Mortensen, Heather Fassett, Aaron Mortensen, Jeff Gifford, Valerie Knobloch, Rodney Gifford, Laurie Adams, Mark Gifford, Tracy Rasmussen, Wendy Wright, Cloyse Loren Snyder, Doug Robbins, Brett Robbins, Brian Robbins and Chris Robbins; 48 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Velda was predeceased by her husband, Karl Alfred Mortensen; Her siblings of whom she was the oldest and with her mother being gone she raised as her own, Dorothy Travis, Lillian Bacher, Mildred Jensen, Goldia Lane, Madaline Evangeline Laursen, Malcom Daggett, Lyle Daggett and Wayne Daggett; her great-granddaughter, Nicole Wright and her great-grandson, Kayden Wright.
