Howard E. “Red” Williams, 91, of Summerville died Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Trident Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Ave. North Charleston, SC 29406.  

Red was born Jan. 20, 1919 in Potter, a son of Erwin and Mary Read Williams. He was a graduate of Middlesex High School.He was a veteran of the United States Army, past commander of Middlesex Robson Savage Post 546 and current member of the Penn Yan Legion Post 355. He also was a past member of the Elks Club.

He retired as a barber and was a member of Middlesex Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Alice Middlebrook Williams; three sons, Leigh Williams of Middlesex, Jay (Mary) Williams  of Summerville, S.C. and Ross (Patricia) Williams of Mary Esther, Fla., five grandchildren, Bryan Williams of James Island, S.C., Wendy Myers of McDoughna, Ga., Cory Williams of New Zealand, Jason Hefner of Destin, Fla. and Brian Hefner of Destin, Fla.; eight great grandchildren; a sister: Eloise Bell of Penn Yan; a sister-in-law, Roma Dekouski of Penn Yan.

He was predeceased by a brother- and sister-in-law, Harold and Florence Middlebrook of Penn Yan.
