Cynthia Ann "Cyndy" Carruthers, 53, of 16 Chambers St. Dundee, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 29, 2010 in the comfort of her home.

Honoring her wishes,family and friends were invited to celebrate her life at the family home beginning on Saturday, Oct. 2. A Fire lighting ceremony was held at 7 p.m. with Rev. Lucinda O'Leary officiating.

Cyndy was born Dec. 12, 1956 in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Robert Eugene and Betty Phelps Plumlee. She moved to New York in 1968, and graduated from Dundee Central School in 1974. On Jan. 31, 1976 in Dundee, she married William J. “Bill” Carruthers.

In 1978 she and Bill moved to Florida, where she got her experience in retail.  They returned to New York in 1983, and she became a bookkeeper employed by Del Rossa Ford, in Dresden, for 14 years. She also has worked at Specchio Ford in Watkins Glen, Coach and Equipment in Penn Yan, and most recently in retail management for Walmart in Watkins Glen; retiring due to her health in May of 2010.

Cyndy was an active member of the Dundee American Legion Bradley-Jessop Post #660 Ladies Auxiliary, having been past president, treasurer, secretary, and steward. She will be remembered for her many years of service to the Legion.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and backyard party hostess,she is loved and will be missed by her husband of 34 years William J. “Bill” Carruthers, two sons Timothy Alan "Tim" Carruthers, and Allen Michael "Mike" Carruthers, all at home; a daughter, Karri Ann, of Hector, four grandchildren Nathan, Tyler, Peyton and Clayton; five brothers “Butch” Larry and Terry Plumlee all of Missouri; Mark Plumlee of Fort Smith, Ark, and David Plumlee of Penn Yan; numerous nieces and nephews; many in-laws; and countless friends.
