Ernest V. ''Ernie'' Cadwell, 75, of Dundee,died unexpectedly Sunday January 23, 2011 in the comfort of his home.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27 at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water St., Dundee, where a funeral service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28 with Rev. Lucinda O'Leary officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dundee Emergency Squad, 12 Union St., Dundee, 14837; Medic 55 c/o Soldiers & Sailors Hospital 418 N. Main St. Penn Yan 14527; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Ernest was born June 5, 1935 in the town of Barrington, the son of Leo and Jenny Cornish Cadwell Sr. He graduated from Dundee Central School in 1953. He entered the U.S. Marine Corp in September of that same year, and was honorably discharged from active duty in September of 1956; serving in the reserves until 1961. On Oct. 25, 1957 in Reading Center, he married the former Sylvia J. Switzer.
“Ernie” was a tractor trailer driver from 1960-1990 for Penn Yan Express, retiring after 30 years; he then accepted a position in the Maintenance Department at Dundee Central School, where he worked until 1999. He enjoyed a year of retirement and then in 2000 he became the Service Manager of Tom Pratt Auto, where he was currently employed.
Mr. Cadwell was a 36-year member of the Dundee American Legion Bradley-Jessop Post #660, and was a former Little League Coach. In his spare time he enjoyed golf, hunting, travelling, online poker, and dining out.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sylvia J. Cadwell; a daughter, Joy C. (Wayne) LeShure; two sons, Timothy E. (Rhonda) Cadwell, and Scott H. (Bobbie-Jo) Cadwell all of Dundee, six grandchildren, Derek and Tim LeShure, Josh, Jessica, Joe, and Brandon Cadwell; two great grandchildren, Mark LeShure and Kierra Holden; two sisters Jean Inschco and Mary (Robert) Crans both of Dundee; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Lori Sue Cadwell in 1961, a grandson, Bradley LeShure in 2003, three brothers and several in-laws.
