Roger Lewis Gurba, 68, of Penn Yan, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
Family and friends are invited to call from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 and from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Weldon Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Burial will in Bellona Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family requests memorial donations to the Hydrant Hose Company of the Penn Yan Fire Department or Yates County Humane Society.
Roger was born in Seneca Falls, New York on May 5, 1944 to Thomas and Wilver (Robbins) Gurba. He spent several years working for the bowling center in Clifton Springs, Town and Country Lanes in Geneva and retired from the Village of Penn Yan after 28 years as a building maintenance worker.
Roger served for several years as both a Penn Yan volunteer ambulance worker and a Penn Yan Volunteer fire fighter, where he was still an active honorary member of the Hydrant Hose Company. He was also a life member of the Northern Central New York Volunteer Fireman's Association Inc.
Roger will be dearly missed by his mother and step father, James and Wilver (Peggy) Cooley of Waterloo; his daughter, Sharon (Keith) Thomas of Penn Yan; his step-daughters Kelly (George) Palmisano of Liverpool and Naomi (Mike) Gleason of Penn Yan; granddaughter Emilie Thomas; step-grandson Anthony Gleason; sisters Elaine Gurba, Kathleen Nugent and Patricia Lyons.
He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Gurba Sr. his brother, Thomas Gurba Jr., and his companion of 38 years, Barbara Garrison.
