Penn Yan Police answered a complaint of two males wearing ski masks attempting to break into a Main St. residence late at night on Jan. 9. A short time later, after interviewing the victim, police stopped a vehicle on Main St. occupied by Jeremiah Berch, 27, of Wagener St., Penn Yan, and Clarence Hall, 27, of County Rte. 96, Hammondsport. After interviewing the victim and the suspects, it was determined that Berch and Hall had attempted to enter the residence intending to inflict bodily harm on the victim. Berch was charged with second-degree felony attempted burglary, third-degree felony criminal possession of a weapon, fifth-degree felony conspiracy, and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Hall was charged with second-degree felony attempted burglary, fifth-degree felony conspiracy, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Both men were arraigned in Penn Yan Court and remanded to the county jail on $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond each.
