For 170 years the Yates County Fair has been a great source of amusement for its patrons. Rides, games of chance, thrill shows and animal shows have put smiles on the faces of generations of families. It has been a place to see the “never been seen before.”
Over the years some things have changed. Once the biggest attraction was horse races. Now the audiences enjoy watching the “smash -em up” demolition derby. Tractor-pulls now feature souped-up vehicles, not your average field plowin’ machine.
Competitions remain the same. Exhibitors have been in quest of that “Blue Ribbon,” since the beginning. The housewife, farmer and 4-H member still bring their homemade wares : pies, jam, and crafts and of course animals for judging.
Old-time farm traditions continue when Yates County Fair opened on Tuesday July 7 at 10 a.m. Daily admission is $6 per person, 2 and under free. This includes admission to the Fair and grandstand. There are daily free shows and exhibits.
