Everyone is invited to have a little fun in the sun on Sunday, Aug. 20 as the Arts Center of Yates County holds its first summer ice cream social at its lakeside facility, Sunny Point. Designed as an “empty bowls” fundraising event, the ice cream social will offer pottery and wooden bowls, handcrafted and donated by local artists and enthusiastic local residents, at $25 per bowl (or $20 a bowl with copy of the official flyer). Bowls will be sold on a first come first choice basis.

Once you’ve picked the bowl, or bowls, of your choice, Arts Center volunteers will fill it with Seneca Farms ice cream, and from there the event becomes a “make your own sundae” adventure. Enjoy your sundae sitting lakeside at Sunny Point, tour the new pottery studio, the studio barn, and the artist’s cottage, and keep your bowl.

“Sunny Point is a unique community asset” says Arts Center Executive Director Kris Pearson. “We wanted to host an activity there that encourages people to enjoy the property and celebrate art. Thanks to our great area potters we have some wonderful bowls for the project and thanks to Seneca Farms we’ll have wonderful ice cream to fill them.”

Proceeds from the event will help support Arts Center activities, including pottery classes and supervised open studio time at the Sunny Point pottery. The ice cream social will be held Sunday, Aug. 20 from 1 – 4 p.m. at Sunny Point, 868 East Lake Road (Keuka Lake), Dundee.

Visitors can come by car or boat. Stop by the Arts Center at 127 Main Street to see some of the bowls that have been donated towards the effort and to pick up a flyer for a discount on the bowl price.
