Alyssa Broome
Alyssa Broome, the daughter of Shawn and Kelly Broome, is sponsored by Penn Yan Fire Department.
Alyssa is the class of 2013 treasurer and a member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Yearbook Club, Interact Club, H.E.R.O., Relay for Life, Foot print Team and HUBBA. She also volunteers at the Shelter of Hope, Milly’s Pantry and afternoon teas for senior citizens. Alyssa is also a swim instructor for the Town of Jerusalem, and has received the academic excellence pin and letter, the excellence award for Spanish, and has been on the Honor Roll since 2006.
Her hobbies include knitting, sewing, dancing, basketball, spending time with family & friends, learning new things, drawing, photography, camping, baking, volunteering, movies, shopping, swimming, working with kids and traveling.
“If I was in charge of Penn Yan for a day I would ask the community members to come together and fix up our beautiful town by picking up the trash along our roads, planting flowers around town and in the local parks and fixing up the older houses and buildings around town. this would help enhance the beauty our town already possess.”
Abigail Eaves
Abigail Eaves, the daughter of Ed and Marilyn Eaves, is sponsored by the Yates Community Center.
Abigail is a superior honor roll student at Penn Yan Academy and volunteers at the Penn Yan Manor. She is the International Club president and a member of Hubba, band, marching band, jazz ensemble, Ski Club. Abigail is the director of the Empire State Quarter Horse Youth Association and NYS representative in Columbus Ohio from 2008-2011. She is also a delegate of the National Youth Leadership Conference on Medicine and highly active in her church as a worship leader, Sunday school teacher, youth group; student leader of the Ignition Team.
Abigail enjoys hunting, horseback riding, hiking, biking, walking, running, reading, singing and playing music, praying, studying and learning, and spending time with family and friends.
“As a leader of the Penn Yan community for a day I would declare a “Pay it Back, Pay it Forward” day. Recognition should be given to those who have helped form us all into the citizens we are today. Second, those recognized initially would pay it forward, starting a chain reaction of gratitude throughout the community.”
Elizabeth Gavigan
Elizabeth Gavigan is the daughter of Linda and Pat Gavigan from Penn Yan. She is sponsored by the Penn Yan Rotary Club.
Elizabeth is involved with Interact, select choir, concert choir, natural helpers, Big Brother Big Sisters, treasurer of the Drama Club, Secretary of the Junior Class and dances with Creative Dance Movements.
Her hobbies include reading, shopping, scrapbooking, photography, going to the movies, talking to new people, hanging out and planning parties with my friends.
“If I were in charge of Penn Yan, I would hold weekly and monthly events for the whole community encouraging inter-generational relations and try to lessen drug and violence issues within the community by having more community involvement.”

Brittany Griffin
Brittany Griffin, daughter of Lisa Wood and Greg Griffin, is sponsored by the Penn Yan Chapter of FFA
Brittany is the current FFA student advisor, former FFA President, Dave Eaves “Service Above Self” award winner, County Medal for Leadership winner, Sophomore of the Year 2010, President of International Harvesters, and Vice President of Yates County 4-H Teen Ambassadors. She also volunteers her time for many other organizations and important causes.
In her free time, Brittany enjoys gardening, cooking, making candles and soap, making jewelry, needle felting, raising & showing sheep, goats and beef cattle at the fair.
“The success of our community depends upon the people’s involvement. I would like a day celebrating local businesses, service agencies, clubs and organizations and would call it “One Day, One Community.” It would be a day to honor and raise awareness of our local commerce.”
Gabrielle Hollenbeck
Gabrielle Hollenbeck, the daughter of Brenda and Kevin Hollenbeck, is sponsored by The Penn Yan Lions Club.
Gabrielle is a member of the H.E.R.O. project, Yates County Relay for Life, the ALS association and Pep Club. She also plays varsity lacrosse and volleyball, ski club, and works atSmugglers Corner Bar and Grill.
Gabrielle’s hobbies include lacrosse, volleyball, golf, skiing, water sports, reading listening to music, hanging out with friends, camping and outdoor activities as well as various activities with Relay for Life and the H.E.R.O. project.
“If I were in charge of Penn Yan for a day, I would bring attention to bullying. I would introduce an anti-bullying program called “If You Really Knew Me” and open it up to people of all ages. All people need to know how one little thing could really hurt someone’s feelings.”
Emma Willing
Emma Willing, daughter of James and Judith Willing, is sponsored by Catholic Daughters of America (SDA) St. Michael’s Court 1173.
Emma is an officer of her Girl Scout Troop, altar server at St. Patrick’s Church, a Village of Penn Yan and New York State lifeguard, swimming lesson instructor, a Superintendent search committee member and a volunteer at Milly’s Pantry. Her achievements include academic excellence letter and pin recipient, and a four-time scholar athlete.
In her free time, Emma is co-captain of her nationally-ranked synchronized swim team. She also enjoys swimsuit design, drawing, painting and photography.
“If I had the opportunity to be in charge of Penn Yan for a day, I would bring out her natural beauty by showcasing our great community in murals scattered throughout the town for all to see.”
