A benefit dinner for Marshall (Bing) Harris, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Dundee American Legion. Electronics, computer recycling
The Penn Yan Baseball Boosters Club will hold a computer and electronics recycling fundraising event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Elm Street Baseball Park, Penn Yan.
Computers, laptops, modems, servers, peripherals, GPS units, cell phones, fax machines, copiers, CD players and other IT equipment will be accepted. A $5 fee is charged for each TV to defray the cost of disposing hazardous materials. Cash donations will benefit the Baseball Boosters Club.
The cost to dispose computers and other electronics through another service or at a transfer station or dump could make other means of disposal more expensive.
Barbecued Pork Chop Dinner

Spirit of America
Spirit of America, the highly visual, live-action U.S. Army show from Washington, D.C., will appear Sept. 12 and 13 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.
During the show, Soldiers in historical uniforms reenact key moments in the U.S. Army and American history. The re-enactments include battle scenes, short periods of simulated gunfire, and performances by the Army's elite ceremonial units.
The show features the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," and Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), the oldest active-duty infantry unit in the Army. Elements of The Old Guard include The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, the Caisson Platoon, the Commander-in-Chief's Guard and the U.S. Army Drill Team.
There are four free performances: 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. Performances are two hours, including a 15-minute intermission. They are open to the general public and admission is free. However, a ticket is needed to attend.

Ride Like an Animal Poker Run
The Ride Like An Animal Motorcycle Poker Run will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 beginning at the Seneca Lake Duck Hunters Club, 2188 State Route 14, Dresden.
Pre-registration by Sept. 12 can be completed online at yateshumane.org for $25 which includes a t-shirt, snacks, water and a Pig Roast at the club. Registration on the 20th is at 10 a.m. for $30. Passengers ride free.

S&S Auxiliary slates Musicale Tea
The Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will host a Musicale Tea featuring local musicians and refreshment selections from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church, corner of Main and Chapel streets.

Train ride to Watkins Glen
The Finger Lakes Railways offers a ride from Himrod to Watkins Glen on Sept. 25. Tickets go on sale Aug. 18 at the Office of the Aging for $15 per person at 417 Liberty St., Penn Yan.
The trip includes a two-hour layover in Watkins Glen for lunch. All riders are provided with a map of downtown Watkins Glen and a list of area restaurants. Patrons will be able to view menus while on the ride and at the Office for the Aging. Park at the Himrod Baptist Church or the Eagle Hotel, both located on the corner of Himrod-Lakemont Road and Rice Road. Introduction to Reiki
A session on Introduction to Reiki will be held Monday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at Cobblestone Springs, 4306 Lakemont- Himrod Road, Dundee. Greta Mickey, Third Degree Reiki Master and teacher will lead the session.
Reiki means “universal life force energy” and is a form of hands-on healing which originated in Japan with Mikao Usui in the 1800’s. The National Institutes of Health now classify Reiki as a Biofield Medicine. Reiki is gaining ever-wider acceptance in the medical establishment as a complementary/ integrative medicine and is being used as an adjunct for the care of cancer patients, in hospice work, during labor and delivery, to relieve stress and emotional trauma, and to aid in emotional and physical healing. This workshop will explore the history of Reiki, its healing potential, its uses in self-healing, healing animals, healing others, and distance healing, as well as sharing insights into a hands on Reiki healing session. The suggested donation is $15 each ($12 for members).
Growing Older,
Growing Wiser
Clinton Crest Manor, Penn Yan Manor, St. Mark’s Terrace and the Yates County Office for the Aging present Sage-ing: Growing Older, Growing Wiser from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21 or Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Yates County Office Building Auditorium. This is a free, interactive seminar. Topics include Denial of Aging is Dangerous to your Health, Looking at the Past With What You Know Now, and Letting Go and Facing the Future With Joy. Contemplatives at Cobblestone
Contemplatives at Cobblestone is a morning of quiet prayer for those who long for space and time for solitude. The group, facilitated by Anne Alderman, SSJ, provides support for the individual’s prayer. The morning begins with a brief guided reflection, followed by two hours of silence and solitude, and concludes with half an hour of silent prayer together. Suggested donation is $5 per session. It is held Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 at Cobblestone Springs, 4306 Lakemont Himrod Road, Dundee. Upcoming dates are Oct. 22, Dec. 17, Feb.18, April 22, June 17, Aug.26.

Fall Day of Prayer
A Fall Day of Prayer, a time apart for quiet reflection and prayer at Cobblestone Springs in the fall will be held Thursday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day will begin with an opening prayer and a brief, reflective presentation. Most of the day will be devoted to silent reflection and prayer. Participants may sign up to meet with Anne Alderman, SSJ individually, if desired. A time for sharing and a closing prayer will end the day. Bring a lunch. Beverages will be provided. Suggested donation is $20 ($16 member).
