The Seventh Annual Middlesex Citizen Appreciation Day will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8 at the Middlesex Fire Hall.
Those honored this year are Laura Dorman, and Phyllis Button and the late Doug Mack.
Laura Dorman
Laura Dorman was born July 21, 1923 to George Frieda Shear. She is the sister of Elaine Emory and Ruth Cassidy.
She married Rodney Dorman July 14, 1945. She is the mother of Nancy, David, Bonnie and Melanie. She is the grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of 15.
She worked at the Middlesex Post Office from 1966 to 1988. She has been an active member of the Middlesex Baptist Church for 55 years, in addition to being a volunteer at the Middlesex Heritage Group for 23 year, the Ambulance Corps. between 1971 and 1984, Fire Company Auxiliary for 10 years, and the Middlesex Heritage Group for 30 years.
Phyllis Seely Button
Phyllis Seely Button was born March 8, 1933, in Fayette, to Allan and Mildred Kidd Seely. She is the sister of Joyce and Shirley. She graduated Middlesex Valley Central in 1951.
She married Leon W. Button Sept. 19, 1951. She is the mother of Bill, Debbie, Ed, Marlene, Allanand Leon. She is the grandmother of 13, great-grandmother of 11, and step-grandmother of four.
She was a stay-at-home mother, kept town books, and worked on the farm, as well as catered parties and making cakes for weddings or other special occasions. She was treasurer and trustee for the Middlesex Methodist Church and trustee of the Middlesex Heritage Group. In addition, she was a 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher, choir director, and organist. She was honored by the Middlesex Methodist Church in 2009.
Doug Mack
Doug Mack was born April 11, 1945. He was the son Hiram and June Elwell Mack.
He graduated from Middlesex Valley Central School in 1964, and gained an Agricultural Science degree from Alfred Tech in 1966.
He married Jeanette Seeley Sept. 15, 1973. He was the father of Brad Mack.
He was a dairy farmer with his father until 1976, then worked as a farmer of cash cropped wheat, corn, oats, hay, and sunflowers. He sold and delivered Growers Nutritional Solutions, and was the District Manager for the company from 1976-2007.
He was appointed to Town Board in 1976 to fill the term of Frank Brundage, elected to the Board in the next election, and served until 2007. In addition, he served on the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Committee and the Yates County Agricultural and Stabilization Committee. He taught snowmobile safety course in the 1970s.
