Alvah and Waneta (Travis) Wayand of Danville, Ala., formerly of Milo, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 25 at a gathering at their son, Doug’s home at 131 Brown St., Penn Yan.
The couple was married Sept. 16, 1950, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gorham. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. A. M. Schroeder. Jeannie Travis of Dundee, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. Ellis Wayand of Hartselle, Ala., brother of the groom was the best man.
Their children are Doug Wayand of Penn Yan, Greg (Sue) Wayand of Mullica Hill, N.J., Diane Wayand of Houston, Texas, and Jeff (Berri) Wayand of Granby, Conn. They have nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Alvah is a graduate of Gorham High School. He has been employed at Gold Kist in Danville, Ala. For 30 years. He is the son of Michael and Alice Wayand of Penn Yan.
Waneta is a graduate of Dundee High School. She is the daughter of Fred and Edna Travis of Dundee.
They were active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Penn Yan and the Lutheran Church in Decatur, Ala
