“We walk in the Relay because we know the American Cancer Society is working for a better tomorrow for our family and for yours. We walk because we want to get the word out that early detection is key to a longer life,” writes Bernie Spanneut.
The Spanneut family confronted the worst reality that cancer brings when their daughter, Valerie Steele, lost her battle in October 2008.
Gene and Bernie and their daughter, Rochelle Merchant, have also experienced first-hand the life prolonging benefits of early detection, successful surgeries, and treatments that result from today’s medical and scientific advances.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) sponsors important and much needed research. Locally, in the Lakes Region, the ACS supports six projects. Nationally, they have sponsored 44 Nobel Prize winners in the field of cancer research. This makes us know our money is helping.
The Spanneuts invite others to join them June 5-6, starting at 6 p.m. to see first-hand the fun and festivities that make the Yates Relay for Life a great time.
Consider joining a team, sponsoring someone who is on a team, or buying a luminary in memory or in honor of someone in your life who has battled cancer. See what choices are available to you by looking on-line at www.RelayForLife.org/YatesCountyNY.
