The winner of the Keuka Arts Festival poster contest is a local art student from Keuka College.
Crystal Cochell, a native of Trumansburg, is a visual and verbal arts major who heard about the poster contest from her art teacher, Melissa Newcomb.
“She was encouraging the class to participate, and when we had two snow days in a row up here at Keuka, she said to me, ‘You’ve got two days! Go for it!’”
Crystal said her idea for the poster was taken from an earlier pen and ink sketch she had done over the summer, of the rolling hills of the area with vines at the top.
She noticed that the vines looked similar to the grape vines and she just continued the vines down. Crystal has always admired the landscape of New York, and the twisty grapevines were a huge influence on her design.
Paulina Garces Reid, Marketing Chair for the Keuka Arts Festival, said Crystal’s poster will be used for advertising for the festival, and will be featured on this year’s tee-shirts.
Crystal will receive booth space at the festival, the first copy of the finished poster, a commemorative T-shirt, and an invitation to the Friday Night Artist Reception.
The Keuka Arts Festival, a juried fine arts and skilled craft show ,also features local wines, farm produce and culinary fares from around the area.
The Festival will feature live entertainment and activities for families, and will be held June 12-13, 2010 along the Keuka Lake Outlet trail at the Penn Yan Boat Launch.
