Starting up a great season of exhilarating and upbeat performances, Andy Stobie and the Greater Lakes Jazz Orchestra will be featured as the opening act for the Yates County Summer Concert Series 2010.  This performance will be held Wednesday, June 30 at the Yates County courthouse lawn located on Main and Liberty Streets in Penn Yan.  Show time is  6:30 pm.

Sponsored by the Yates Concert Series Inc. and made possible through many donations from local businesses, the summer series begins by welcoming the Finger Lakes region’s biggest, hottest, most exciting show band.

Hailing from the Geneva and Canandaigua areas and originating in 2006, this 20 piece big band features dance and specialty tunes from the libraries of Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich and Stan Kenton.

Reminisce to the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s through customized hits recorded by Earth, Wind, and Fire, Stevie Wonder, and Chicago. There will be rock, pop, and R&B.  They will even throw in some classic swing band hits of the 30’s and 40’s.  Listen as Andy croons to Frank Sinatra, and the female vocal artist, Angie Bemus sings Natalie Cole and other female hits.

The jazz orchestra strives to continue to showcase the classics with its own twist, thus creating new music with an incredible “wow” factor that is fun for the performers and audience. Through experience and talent, this group guarantees that the audience will have an enjoyable evening at its performance.

Concerts are free and open to the public.  Bring your own lawn chairs, however in case of inclement weather, the concert will be held inside the adjoining Penn Yan First Baptist Church.  Featured intermission sales will be sponsored by the American Red Cross.  There is plenty of free parking and hospitality.

Concerts will continue on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer.
