The United Way of Northern Yates County has reached 83 percent of its $45,000 fundraising goal and needs to raise an additional $8,000 to bring the campaign to a successful conclusion.
United Way officials stated that this year’s campaign supports the work of fourteen community agencies serving thousands of Yates County residents of varied backgrounds and diverse needs.
“The needs of our community continue to grow in these hard times,” said United Way president Mike Rogoff, adding, “We are trying to support services to hard-pressed middle-income families, as well as low-income families who are reaching out for help to our member agencies.”
A volunteer panel of local residents and business people identify the agencies to receive support and the amount of funding they will receive.
The agencies receiving funds in this year’s campaign and their allocations are:
Big Brothers, Big Sisters ($2,000)
Boy Scouts ($1,200)
Child and Family Resources, Inc. ($2,000)
Christmas for the Needy ($5,100)
Finger Lakes Addiction Counseling and Rehabilitation Agency ($1,200)
Finger Lakes Migrant Health ($2,000)
Food for the Needy ($2,000)
Girl Scouts ($1,200)
Keuka Housing Council, Inc. ($1,000)
Literacy Volunteers ($700)
Rainbow Junction Child Care Center ($5,000)
Red Cross ($4,000) and Red Cross Wish Fund ($500)
Safe Harbor (Rape and Abuse Crisis Service) ($5,260)
Yates Youth Services ($1,300)
United Way officials emphasized that they continually look for ways to keep administrative costs to a minimum and that the use of local vendors and services ensures that 99 percent of donations remain within Yates County.
“We really believe that when you give someone else a hand, you both climb higher,” said Rogoff. “We appreciate any contribution you can send to help us make it over the goal line.”
Donations may be sent to the United Way of Northern Yates County, PO Box 536, Penn Yan, NY 14517.
