The combination of two charity walks to relieve hunger into one more focused event has proven a success right out of the gate.
According to Hunger Walk director Donna Johnston, the 2016 Turkey Walk raised $5,859, and the local portion of the 2015 CROP Walk was just $2,065, for a total of $7,924. Johnston is thrilled to report that in its very first year, the 2017 Hunger Walk raised over $9,600 with more donations still coming in.
The breakdown of the top fundraising groups stands:
#1 .Yatesville United Methodist Church with over $3,000.
#2. Penn Yan United Methodist Church
#3. St. Michael’s Catholic Church & School.
“This was the most fun walk ever,” says Johnston. “We loved having so many children there!”
Johnston and the organizers say another positive outcome of consolidating the walks is that 100 percent of collected money will go to our local food pantry to purchase needed food and turkeys for their November distribution to local families at Thanksgiving.
