The Penn Yan Mustang girl's lacrosse team ended their regular season schedule on a high note with a convincing 19-10 victory over Wayne in Ontario Center May 17 after an 18-5 victory over East Rochester Monday.

Penn Yan 18 East Rochester 5

The Penn Yan Mustang girl's lacrosse team defeated East Rochester 18-5 May 15 in Rochester. The Orange and Blue laxers raced to a 7-2 first half lead and cruised to the victory with an 11 goal 2nd half outburst. Elissa Callaway tallied 6 goals and an assist to pace the torrid Penn Yan attack. Teammate Brenna Voigt added 4 goals and 5 assists while Sydney Bloom scored 2 goals. Rounding out the Mustang scoring ledger was Alli Olevnik (1 goal/1 assist), Devin Stahlman (1 goal/1 assist), Cassie Lafler (1 goal), Brooke Dinehart (1 goal), Sydney Hulse (1 goal), and Alycia Moravec (1 goal). Alexandra Cox and Hanna Brodman recorded 4 saves and 3 saves respectively in goal for Penn Yan. The Mustangs improved their record to 9-6 with the win.

Penn Yan 19 Wayne 10

The Penn Yan Mustang girls ended the season with a 19-10 victory over Wayne in Ontario Center May 17. The local girls led 12-6 half way through the game and waltzed to the victory on the strength of a 7-goal second half. Brenna Voigt enjoyed a huge game on offense for the Orange and Blue. She scored 9 goals and added an assist. Elissa Callaway and Hannah Keech registered 3 goals each. Keech added 2 assists and Callaway 1 assist. Also scoring for Penn Yan was Devin Stahlman (2 goals), Alli Olvenik (1 goal/1 assist), Sydney Bloom (1 goal/ 2 assists), and Cassie Lafler (1 assist0. Alex Cox recorded 2 saves in goal for Penn Yan in 25 minutes of play. Hanna Brodman added 6 saves in the second half in goal. Penn Yan improves their record to 10-6 with sectional play started soon.

Marcus Whitman 10 Gananda 8

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girls lacrosse team defeated Gananda 10-8 in their final regular season matchup Thursday afternoon in Gananda. The win improved Whitman's record to 11-5 with sectional play starting soon. Jordan Knapp scored 5 goals for the Wildcats to lead the offense. Emily Thompson added 3 goals and an assist. Rounding out the Whitman scoring was Abbie Alvord with 2 goals and Cameron James with 2 goals and 1 assist. Liz Cooley stopped 6 Gananda shots in goal for Marcus Whitman.

Boy's Lacrosse

Penn Yan 9 McQuaid 3

The regular season rapidly drawing to a conclusion, the Penn Yan Mustang boy's lacrosse team hoped to pick up some positive momentum going into the Section V tournament. The Mustangs traveled to Rochester May 16 to take on McQuaid. The Orange and Blue jumped out to a 5-2 first half lead in this contest and went on to defeat their hosts 9-3. Austin Blumbergs scored 6 goals and 1 assist to lead the Mustang scoring charge. Freshman Brandon Smith added 2 goals while Conner Fingar tallied 1 goal. Ben Emerson assisted on 3 of the Mustang goals. Jeff Kinyoun recorded 5 saves in goal for Penn Yan in one half of play. Kyle Welker stopped 4 shots in the second half for Penn Yan (7-8).

Webster-Thomas 9 Penn Yan 8 (Double Overtime)

The Mustang boy's lacrosse team dropped a heart breaking 9-8, double overtime decision to Webster Thomas May 18 in Rochester. The Orange and Blue led most of the way in this game, but the hometown Thomas boys scored the final 4 goals of the game to pick up the win. Conner Fingar scored 4 goals and added an assist to lead the Mustang scoring ledger. Austin Blumberg scored 2 goals. Dylan Stape and Brandon Smith also scored goals for Penn Yan while Will Rogers and Ben Emerson dished out 2 assists each for the Mustangs. Jeff Kinyoun registered 9 saves in the first half for Penn Yan while Kyle Welker had 2 saves in the second half for Penn Yan (7-9).

Marcus Whitman 17 Avon 4

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat boy's lacrosse team picked up their 3rd win of the season, defeating Avon 17-4 in Gorham May 16. Tim Cornish and Seth Benedict led the Wildcats in scoring with 5 goals each. Both players recorded assists too. Schuyler Bredesen added 3 goals and 2 assists while DeCouteau Blueye chipped in 3 goals and 1 assist. Ezera Jones also scored a Wildcat goal. Michael Dhondt picked up 10 saves in goal for Marcus Whitman (3-12). 


Hornell 17 Penn Yan 5

The Penn Yan Mustang baseball team finished their regular season schedule by hosting Hornell in a non-league game May 15 at the Elm Street Field. The Orange and Blue dropped a 17-5 decision to the Red Raiders in this contest. The Steuben County visitors scored 9 late inning runs to put this game out of reach. Freshman Brennan Prather enjoyed a big afternoon at the plate for Penn Yan. He had 3 hits including a double and drove in 3 runs. Peyton Schuck collected 2 hits for Penn Yan.
