Yates County Marine Patrol officers began assisting Ontario County Sheriff’s patrol with a search on Canandaigua Lake Monday afternoon and continued the search Tuesday. Officials began the search Monday for an 83-year-old Rochester man after his boat washed up on the Canandaigua Lake shoreline near his cottage on Route 21.
Richard P. Myers, of 7 Park Ave., Rochester, whose cottage is located on the west side of the lake had been last seen at around 10:30 a.m. Monday. A local marina employee had helped him get his boat started at about 10:30 a.m., and he was last seen walking back toward his residence, leaving the boat running. About 10:50 a.m., Ontario County officials received a report about an empty boat, power off, washing up on the shoreline north of Myer’s cottage, an area he was known to swim from the boat. Myers was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red shirt. The jeans were found in his cottage, but the shirt was not.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Ontario County sheriff’s office at 800-394-4560.
