John was born May 6, 1933 in Pulteney. He was the son of the late Thomas Baroody and Phoebe Harndon Baroody. John graduated from Haverling High School in 1951. He became a welder at Mercury Aircraft in Hammondsport, retiring from there after 42 years. He also worked part-time at Shorts Filling Station in Bath. John lived most of his life in Bath, where he raised his family.

In his retirement years, John moved to Stanley to be with his partner, Alice Wright, and her family. He enjoyed traveling, baking, cooking for others, camping, photography, and riding with the NA40+ Touring Riders. If you were to have the pleasure of knowing John, you knew you had a friend for life. He was an honorable and good man. He loved children, and children loved him. It never mattered if they were born to him or children of friends. John had a way of making life fun and interesting.

John is survived by partner, Alice Wright of Stanley; his five children, Shirley (Sonny) Obrochta of Avoca, Walter Baroody of Prattsburgh, Darlene Dickenson of Mansfield, Pa., Gerald Baroody of Rochester, and Theresa (Ron) Long of Dundee; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Ralph) Kilsdonk of Hammondsport; and brother, Joseph (Janet) Baroody, of Bath. He is also survived by Alice’s children, Valerie Cunningham of Stanley, Ronald (Ellen) Ketcham of Eldredige, Mo., Dianna Vanderpool of Shortsville, and Kevin (Angelica) Wright of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; and Alice’s 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

John was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, George Baroody, Raymond Baroody, and Leo Baroody; and a grandson, Jeremiah Baroody.
