Free concert at Keuka College Norton Chapel
Ithacappella, Ithaca College’s only all-male vocal ensemble, will perform at Keuka College Sunday, Nov. 5. Free and open to the public, the concert begins at 3 p.m. in Norton Chapel.
Ithacappella was founded in 1996 by four music students who wanted to create a men’s singing ensemble at the college. Initially known as the Ithaca College Men’s Chorus, the group today boasts some 15 members, and sings everything from traditional choral arrangements to current radio hits.
In addition to high-quality live performances, Ithacappella has become known for their recordings, with critically acclaimed albums that push the boundaries of vocal music. Their latest album, Deviations, was released in February, and a new album is expected later this year.
In addition to four concerts at Ithaca College during the academic year, the group brings its talent to schools with interactive singing workshops designed to educate and inspire musicians of all ages. The group has performed in a number of different venues across the country, and continues to take advantage of performance opportunities.
Outside of the Ithaca area, the group has competed in multiple festivals and competitions. The group’s albums have earned numerous honors and nominations at the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards. The group has competed in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, including appearances in the finals at Lincoln Center in 2008 and 2009. In the 2008 finals, Ithacappella was named Best Male Ensemble, and the group received a special award for Outstanding Soloists, as well as Outstanding Vocal Percussion, an award they captured again in 2015.
Ithacappella has shared the stage with the Grammy-nominated rock group Incubus, performing the band’s hit song “Dig” for thousands of fans. Ithacappella has also appeared on television shows such as “American Idol,” CNN, and “The Price Is Right.” In addition, many of the group’s songs have been featured on collegiate and professional compilation albums.
Ithacapella has also collaborated on two singles benefitting the Born This Way Foundation and The Trevor Project. The singles were created with Ithaca College’s other a cappella groups, Voicestream and Premium Blend, as well as Grammy Award winners Pentatonix.
