On Tuesday, Nov. 14, Penn Yan Academy held the 24th annual Academic Excellence Day. This year 68 students were recognized for achieving a Grade Point Average of 90 or better during the 2016-2017 school year. There were 33 letters, 19 pins, and 16 plaques awarded. Letter recipients have earned a 90 or better G.P.A. for one year, pin recipients for two years, and plaque recipients for three years. The morning began with a breakfast for the recipients and their families followed by an assembly program for the entire school body.
Mayor Leigh MacKerchar read a proclamation proclaiming Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017 as Academic Excellence Day in the Village of Penn Yan. Congratulatory remarks were made by the Board of Education President Jeffrey Morehouse, Superintendent Howard Dennis and by Academy Assistant Principal Warren Kinsey.
The keynote speaker for the occasion was Honorable Judge W. Patrick Falvey. Mr. Kinsey and Mr. Falvey presented the recipients with their awards.
The Academic Excellence Day Program is sponsored by the Penn Yan Teachers Association and the Penn Yan Academy staff.
The Academic Excellence Day Program coincided with American Education Week.
