The national weather service has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night for an area that includes Yates County.

Heavy snow is possible and could result in difficult travel conditions, including during the afternoon commute on Wednesday. Total snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches is expected with ice possibly accumulating as a light glaze.

Significant reductions in visibility are possible. The heaviest snowfall is expected from about 10 a.m. Wednesday until 5 p.m. Wednesday evening. Snow may fall at rates up to 1 inch per hour at times from Bradford County, Pennsylvania into Yates, Seneca, Steuben, Schuyler and Chemung Counties in New York.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
