Philip J. Newby, age 68, of Penn Yan, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at Geneva General Hospital.

Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m.  Wednesday, February 14 at the Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held  at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 15 at St. Michael’s Church, Liberty St., Penn Yan.  Memorials may be made in Phil’s memory to Milly’s Pantry, 19 Main St., Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Phil was born in Penn Yan September 10, 1949 the son of the late Margaret A. (Mahar)  and Robert V. Newby.

Phil is survived by his sons, Kyle (Katherine) of Rochester, Patrick of Penn Yan and Alex of Rome; granddaughter, Molly; the mother of his children, Rhonda Dodson of Waterloo; brother, Terrall “Terry” B. Newby; best friend, JR Campbell of Dundee; and several cousins.

Phil lived a life full of family, friends, and love.Phil was a loving father, and a lover of music, literature, and nature. After a long carreer in medical technology, he spent his retirement volunteering at the Literacy Volunteers and Milly’s Pantry, reading, and enjoying the outdoors and the company of friends and family.
