Donald F. Hill, age 69, of Penn Yan, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018 at Geneva General Hospital, following a brief illness.
Friends and family may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, where his funeral service will be held following at 7 p.m. with Military Honors. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517; or to the Johnson Costello American Legion, 2001 Himrod Rd., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Donnie was born in Penn Yan, NY September 12, 1948 the son of the late Frances V. (Northrup) and LaRue C. Hill. Donnie graduated from Penn Yan Academy and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He retired from the Penn Yan Village Street Dept. after over 30 years of service. Donnie had an interest in local history and spent many hours researching local history at the Oliver House. Among his hobbies and interests, Donnie collected post cards and never missed coffee with the boys at McDonald’s or Dunkin’ Donuts.
Donnie is survived by his loving wife, June (Cannon) Hill; his step children, Marianne (Bruce) Kerrick and Ron (Kera) Groves; grandchildren, Melissa, Ryan, and Kevin Kerrick, and Desiree Groves; special sister-in-law, Alice Hill; niece, Kristen (Dan) and nephew, Jerry (Amy) Hill; and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Donnie was predeceased by his sister, Jane Northrup; brothers, Gerald, LaRue and Kenny Hill; and his K-9 Children, Miss Teddy and Mandy.
