Finger Lakes Health officials report the healthcare organization was notified around midnight Sunday that its electronic systems had been hacked and encrypted by an outside party who is demanding ransom to enable access.

Officials at Finger Lakes Health say there’s no indication patient or employee information has been compromised, and paper records are being used.

“We immediately implemented our manual downtime protocol and procedures which we have practiced for circumstances when computer access is limited,” said Finger Lakes Health in a statement. “We, like many other health systems and businesses, have prepared for this inevitability due to the increase in these types of incidents.”

FLH operates Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, the Homestead Long Term Care, Geneva General Hospital, Huntington Living Center in Waterloo, outpatient, rehabilitation, urgent care and primary care facilities in Yates, Ontario, and Seneca Counties.

The incident is being investigated by law enforcement and security professionals to get the system back up as soon as possible.
