Mr. Sharkey was born Aug. 29, 1927 in Staten Island, and was the son of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Sharkey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Edna Elizabeth Sharkey, who passed away July 28, 2012.

He was an avid gun enthusiast, raced sports cars with the Sports Car Club of America, and could be found sailing his sail boat with his family on the weekends. He was one of the oldest members of the N.Y. State Troopers. Since living in the Valley, he would often visit the local shooting range to give others instructions on how to shoot safely and correctly. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and loved his cat, Miss Kitty.
His surviving family includes his children, Stephen A. Sharkey and wife, Annette of Liverpool, and Diane E. Elmayan and husband, Russell of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Stephen Sharkey, Chastine Kyger, Sarah Kyger, and Beth Carmosino; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
