Maryland man dies of injuries following crash south of Dresden

A fatal car vs. tractor-trailer accident at 7.35 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 on Rte. 14 at East Leach Road in the town of Torrey closed the highway for three hours.
Yates County Sheriff's deputies report that the driver of the car, Harry Frederick Grant Jr., 74, of Dickerson, Md. was driving south on Rte. 14 when he moved to the right and then made a quick left turn into the path of a tractor-trailer following him, driven by Lester Bartley, 60, of Bellfort, Pa. Bartley moved to go around Grant, but was unable to avoid the collision. The truck collided with Grant's silver Lexus, which was pushed across the highway into a guide rail south of East Leach.
Dresden and Himrod Fire Depts., Penn Yan Ambulance Corps, Yates Co. Office of Emergency management, State Troopers responded. Working with the jaws of life, rescuers extricated Grant, who was flown by Mercy Flight helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he later died of his injuries.
