The Lake to Lake Quilt Guild celebrates its 32nd year with its “Spring Into Color” Quilt Show to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 19 and 20 at the Geneva Community Center, 160 Carter St. Geneva, just north of Geneva High School.

The featured speaker this year is Cèleste Compion, from Meerkat Trading Company, who will present a lecture about Shweshwe fabrics from South Africa, entitled, “The Bolt and the Beautiful – The Shweshwe Saga,”a fascinating look at the history and the fabrics. Be sure to check the website for the presentation show time both days.

During the show, handiworks are on display showcasing around 200 pieces not all of which are quilts. Textile art such as clothing, purses, and wall hangings are also on display. The Vendor’s Mall will include everything from patterns, fabric, hand dyed fabrics, notions, embellishments, ribbons, threads, jewelry, and beads. The Gift Gallery offers handmade unique items. Take a break with a cookie or a piece of pie in the dining area or TV room or Quilter’s Café.

The winning quilts from The Quilter’s Consortium of New York State (QCNYS) 2017-2018 Challenge themed, “Converge” will be on exhibit.

Lake to Lake Guild members donated four large bed quilts to Friendship House in Middlesex which they sold to help fund programs to help the disadvantaged. Quilters are very generous in donating baby quilts for the newborns in Newark Hospital Birthing Unit, Quilts of Valor for Veterans and placemats for Office of the Aging and Meals on Wheels to our communities. The guild also donated goods and quilts to the victims of Hurricane Harvey and Irma.

This year, a portion of proceeds from the raffle quilt will go to New Hope Cancer Center at the Living Well in Penn Yan.
