This year’s Yates Concert Series, held on the Yates County Courthouse lawn will start with a bang. The series will openat 6:30 p.m. June 20 with a concert by Ruby Shooz. The co-sponsors of this concert are Lyons National Bank and Phelps Sungas Inc.

Ruby Shooz has developed a massive fan base in the upstate New York region playing songs from the 1950s and 60s. Their audience includes all ages — children to grandparents. Ruby Shooz is one of the most unique bands in the area.

These concerts are free and open to the public, but there will be no concert July 4. Bring your own lawn chair or picnic blanket as this will be an outdoor performance. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held inside the neighboring Baptist Church. The Literacy Volunteers of Ontario Yates will provide refreshments for sale at the concert during intermission. Again this year, for the special enjoyment of children, the Penn Yan Public Library and volunteers will run organized activities on the east end of the park during the concerts.
