The next concert up for the Yates Summer Concerts in the Parks Series will be by the Penn Yan Community Band at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Yates Courthouse, Court and Main Streets in Penn Yan. It is free and open to the public and is being sponsored by the Terry L. Button Farms.
Under the direction of retired music teacher Jeff Stempien, the audience will see many local participants with a variety of instruments. This group reunites those who may have put away their musical instruments from high school, but desire to bring them out again and reignite the comradery and passion for an enjoyable performance.
Community bands are well known for patriotic music, and this band will perform anything from patriotic to pop and classical. Here is a good chance to see your friends and neighbors doing what they do best – sharing their gift of music.
Bring your own lawn chair or blanket. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held indoors at the neighboring Baptist Church. Intermission refreshments will be provided by the Bluff Point United Methodist Church.
Children’s playtime is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. near the Main Street side of the courtyard. There is only one more concert before the 2018 season ends. Anyone with suggestions, comments or ideas for future concerts, should feel free to talk with concert committee members, who can be identified by their name tags.
