Tops Friendly Markets will take over area P&C Foods supermarkets, including the Penn Yan store. A bid by the grocery retailer to acquire a majority of P&C parent company Penn Traffic's assets, which includes 79 supermarkets, was approved Monday by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
“We are very pleased that the court has approved our comprehensive bid," Frank Curci, president and CEO of Tops, said in a released statement. “We look forward to the upcoming closing and the opportunity to bring the Tops Friendly Markets shopping experience to our new neighbors and customers.”
Tops made its bid on Jan. 8. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of this week.
