There is still time to help and there are still needs.

Christmas for the Needy, a volunteer-run project to benefit hundreds of individuals and families in Yates County cannot complete its mission without the help of hundreds of generous individuals throughout the year.
Board members meet regularly, and shopping, sorting and planning go on year round to help make the most of every dollar.

Through the annual program, children and families are provided with new clothes, personal care items, toys, books, and family games.  Families also recieve food baskets.
There are still needs for this year’s giving season, say organizers.

How you can help:
• DONATE ITEMS
Insulated gloves in men’s sizes for teenage boys, hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste etc., and quilts.
One hundred percent of what is collected stays in Yates County.  There are no administrative costs and every penny is spent to provide items for distribution.
• DONATE CASH
Monetary donations are gratefully accepted at P.O. Box 145, Penn Yan or at the Five Star Bank in Dundee.  See the related story.

• VOLUNTEER
An organizational meeting for volunteers will be held on Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Yates County Office Building.  All new and seasoned volunteers are encouraged to attend.

If you are interested in lending a hand this season, contact Joyce Veil at 315-536-6788. People who are physically able to lift and carry, those who have trucks to help with transportation, food basket packers, clothing and toy sorters, cheerful shopping assistants and take down/clean up helpers are all needed.

No donation of time is too small to help the efforts.

Do you need help?
All are welcome to apply.  The program has no income guidelines.  Applications for those needing assistance are available at the Yates County Office for the Aging and at the Dundee Youth Center.
If you are unable to pick up an application, please call the Office for the Aging at 315-536-5515.

Updates to the program this year include the following:
• Families with children will be served at the Armory in Penn Yan on Thursday, Dec. 15.
• Clothing, toys and personal items will be distributed at the Armory.
• Food will be available for pick up at the Baptist Church after your appointment at the Amory is complete
• When you receive your card with the time of your appointment, please be at the Armory at that time (if you are only receiving food, you will not get a card, please come to the Baptist Church anytime on Friday)
• Individuals and families without children will be served at the First Baptist Church on Friday, Dec. 16.
• Food will only be distributed from the First Baptist Church
Reminder

As a reminder, Christmas for the Needy is a separate organization from Milly’s Pantry and Food for the Needy.  In order to insure that donations go where they are intended, please send donations to Christmas for the Needy, P.O. Box 145, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or drop your donation off at the Five Star Bank in Dundee.
