The Penn Yan and Dundee wrestling teams traveled to their respective Section V Championships, competing on Feb. 3 and 4.
Penn Yan finished in seventh place out of 17 teams at the Class BBB Sectionals at Genesee Community College. Seniors Joel Pillsbury and Reid Castner both won their respective 170 lbs. and 285 lbs. weight classes, while sophomore John Martisch finished in second place wrestling at the 195 lbs. class for the Mustangs.
This marks the first time since 1960 that more than one Mustang is the champion of their Section V Class, when Dick Marchinonda, Larry Marchionda, and Mel Brinson all earned the honor.
The Dundee wrestlers went to the Class B Sectionals at York High School.
The Scots finished 13th out of 19 teams, earning 61.00 points. Canisteo-Greenwood won the Class B Sectionals with 210.00 points. Dundee's 145 lbs. wrestler Lucas Chappell finished in second place, 285 lbs. wrestler Vyncent Miller finished in fourth place, and 220 lbs. wrestler Tyler Carruthers earned sixth place.
Chappell also won the tournament's sportsmanship award.
