A Geneva couple in their 70s escaped serious injury in a one-car accident at 6:35 Tuesday evening on Pre-Emption Road south of the intersection with Haven's Corners Road in Benton.

According to Yates County Deputy Scott Smith, Roscoe Krauss, 75, of Geneva, failed to negotiate a curve and struck an embankment. The car became airborne, spun 90 degrees, and struck another embankment, coming to rest there. The Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Benton Fire Dept., and Medic 30 responded to the scene. Krauss and his wife Barbara were transported to Geneva General Hospital complaining of pain. No tickets were issued.

When contacted by phone at home, Mrs. Krauss said that other than some colorful bruises and soreness, she and her husband are both in remarkably good condition. She thanked the lady of the house near the intersection who came to their aid so quickly, and said of the Penn Yan and Benton medical and fire responders, "I want to thank them so much. The people were absolutely wonderful. The care Kyle Heitman and Aaron Parkhurst gave us in the ambulance was fabulous."
