Catherine Edwina Reilly, 91, of Penn Yan and Sun City, Fla. died December 28, 2016 after a short illness.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Michaels Church in Penn Yan in July of 2017.
Edwina, as she liked to be called, was born on January 26, 1925 in Bath to James Edward and Winifred (Durkin) Reilly. She went to St. Michaels School in Penn Yan and graduated from Keuka College with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She explored various fields within the nursing profession, working for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., the Visiting Nurses Service, and as a surgical nurse, before becoming a school nurse teacher. She worked for Elmont School District for most of her career, retiring as a school nurse supervisor for the district.
Edwina never married or had children of her own but was close with her extended family, offering time and support. She loved playing golf and bridge, but obtained the most satisfaction from helping others. She was a loyal and devoted friend. Edwina’s favorite place was “The Cottage,” a family home on Keuka Lake in Penn Yan. Surely she is with her brother and cousins, enjoying a cocktail, and talking about the good old times.
Edwina was predeceased by her parents and brother, James Edward (Jimmy).
She is survived by her niece, Judith Reilly; her great-niece and nephew Jenny and Adam Schrager; and beloved cousins of three generations.
Memorial donations may be made in Edwina’s name to St. Michael’s School at 214 Keuka St. Penn Yan, N.Y. 11415 or online at stmichaelschoolpy.com.
