Gerard “Jerry” Edward Burton, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 22, 2018 at his daughter’s home in Penn Yan, surrounded by many of his children. Our grief is tempered in knowing that he is now in the presence of God and reunited with his bride, Annie.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Michael’s Church, 312 Liberty St, Penn Yan at 10:30 a.m. March 28 followed by a reception in the church hall.

Jerry was born Aug. 6, 1929 in Mineola, N.Y. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Air Corp/Air Force from 1948 - 1952. He married Annie Dorothy Laskowski in 1952, moving the family from Freeport to Branchport in 1971.

Jerry lived a life of service, to include Red Cross Volunteer, Town of Jerusalem Zoning Board member, President and Trustee of Bitley Cemetery, and Branchport Volunteer Firefighter and Fire Chief. His generosity and helpfulness will be remembered by many.

Jerry will be remembered for his love of family, antique automobiles, and the Finger Lakes region. His annual trek to Hershey, Pa. for the AACA Eastern Regional Fall Meet was the highlight of his year.

He is survived by one brother, Edward Burton (Lorna), nine of his 10 children, Antoinette Burton, Rose Jensen (Carl), Dave Burton, Jerry Burton, Jr. (Ronnette), Ann Burton-Bradley (John), Beth Woltmann (Dale), Bob Burton (Monica), Becca Burton, William Burton (Sheva), nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry was predeceased by his infant son, Stephen; wife, Annie; and brother, Charles Burton.
