BIRDIE M. BARKER
PENN YAN —Birdie M. Barker, 90, died November 28, 2007 at Penn Yan Manor.
Memorials may be make to Penn Yan Manor, 655 North Liberty Street, Penn Yan, NY 14527.


Birdie M. Porter was born in Elmira on Nov. 8, 1917. She was predeceased by her husband Glenn Barker, who died in 1994. They had been married 58 years.
She is survived by her children Glenda (Donald) Ladley and William (Sharon) Barker; grandchildren Donna, James (Kim) and Susan Ladley; great-grandchildren Lindsay and Isaac Ladley.


A funeral service was held at Zurbrick-Amigone Funeral Home in Lancaster and interment was in St. Adalbert's Cemetery in Lancaster.

NORA ATHAWES CORWIN
ENDICOTT— Nora Athawes Corwin, 43, of Endicott passed away unexpectedly  Monday; December 10, 2007 at home.


She was an employee of CVS, Johnson City. She was an active member and current
treasurer of the West Corners Fire Department and also a fire commissioner for the West Corners Fire District.


She is survived by her husband, Rick Corwin and her children, Eric and Brittany, both at home; her parents. Bill and Nancy Schofield Athawes of Endicott; her brother. Mark Athawes and Kathy Schepp of Huntington, Long Island; her grandmother. Ray Athawes and aunt, Carol Athawes Nolph, both of Malaga, Wash.; her aunt and uncle. Rod and Sally Schofield Williams; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.


She was predeceased by her grandfathers, Leslie Athawes and George A Schofield.
The funeral was held on December 14 at the Pucedo Funeral Home in Endicott with ail of the fire departments in Endicott paying tribute to her years of sen, ice as a fireman.

JANE B. ETIENNE
ROCK STREAM — Jane B. Etienne, 85, of Rock Stream, died Tuesday December 11, 2007 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility in Montour Falls.


Jane was born Dec.30, 1921 in Colon, Panama, the only child of Harold and Marion Jarvis Bevington.  She graduated from Cristobal High School in Panama in 1939.  She graduated from Blackstone Junior College in Virginia; and then received her Nursing Certification from Garfield Memorial Hospital Nursing School in Washington, D.C.  On May 12, 1951 in Union City, N.J. she married Martin E. Etienne.  They have lived locally since 1991, previously of Fort Lee, N.J.; where she was a former member of the Altar Guild, the choir, and a Sunday school teacher for the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.  Mrs. Etienne was a current member of St. James´ Episcopal Church in Watkins Glen; and had volunteered her time with R.S.V.P Retired Seniors Volunteer Program at Schuyler Hospital and Seneca View for many years.


She is survived by her husband of 56 years Martin E. Etienne at home; a daughter Judith E. (George) Mabin of Allentown, N.J., a son Andrew M. Etienne of Delray Beach, Fla.; three granddaughters Heather J. (Troy) Gladkowski, Kelly L. (Patrick) Brophy, and Shannon L. Mabin.


Honoring her wishes there were no prior calling hours.  A funeral service was held at 11a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at St. James´ Episcopal Church, Decatur St., Watkins Glen with Father Michael Hartney officiating.  Burial was private in Rock Stream Cemetery, Rock Stream.


The family respectfully requests no flowers; but graciously asks that memorial contributions be made to St. James´ Episcopal Church, 112 Sixth St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891; or the charity of the donor’s choice.


Arrangements were by the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.

ESTHER ERNA HARRIS
PENN YAN — Esther Erna Harris died Monday, December 17, 2007.


Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Penn Yan. A funeral service will be held at  11 a.m. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Keuka Comfort Care Home.
Esther was born July 19, 1915 in Goehner, Neb. to Hugo and Clara Klatt Weichenthal. Her father was a farmer and a blacksmith who moved to Penn Yan in 1935 to farm on Briggs Road.


On Sept. 2, 1939 she married Edwin N. Harris from Dundee. The couple moved to Rochester in 1939 where they resided until 1995. After Edwin had a major stroke, they moved to Penn Yan where he died in 2002.


She is survived by a son, Roger (Amanda) Harris of Keuka Park; daughter Linda (Richard) Manley; grandchildren Eric (Suzanne), Aaron (Mercy), Scott (Katie) Brett (Joann) and Deborah (Matthew); 10 great grandchildren; sister Amanda Morrison and brother Gerhurdt Hugo David Weichenthal.


In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by sisters Martha Minnie Weichenthal, Ella Ema Lunick, Arlin Hugo Paul Weichenthal, Paul Wilhelm Weichenthal and grandson Dennis Van Duser.

MARGARET I. JENSEN
PENN YAN —Margaret I. Jensen, 92, of Penn Yan, died December 12, 2007 at The Homestead.


Friends called from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Weldon Funeral Home, where a funeral service officiated by Rev. Ellen Knight was held at 1 p.m. Burial was in Bellona Cemetery.


Memorials may be made to the Happiness House in Geneva.


Margaret was born on Jan. 29, 1915 in Oswego to Albert A. and Mildred L. Van Huber Olsen. She was a homemaker and member of Eastern Stars.


She is survived by her brothers-in-law Kendall Jensen of Penn Yan and Wayne Jensen of Canandaigua; sisters-in-law Berdine Van Sickle and Olive Moore, both of Penn Yan and a cousine Don Felts of Florida.


She was predeceased by her husband, Russell, in 2001.

JOHN (JACK) E. KILLEN
Branchport — John (Jack) E. Killen, 73, of Branchport, passed away at Soldier’s & Sailors Memorial Hospital on December 13, 2007.


Family  and friends called at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527 on Monday, Dec. 17 from 4 -6 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church.  Burial will take place at Bath National Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in Jack’s name to the USO or any US Veteran organization.


Jack was born on May 21, 1934 in New York City, the son of the late Arthur and Mary Heveran Killen.  He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and retired from United States Marine Corp after 24 years as an avionic electrician, with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant E-7.  After his service in the Marine Corps Jack took a second career as a psychiatric nursing assistant for 16 years at the VA Hospital in Canandaigua. In his spare time Jack enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was also an avid New York Giants and Yankees fan.  


Jack is survived by his wife of 47 years Rosanne; children, Sean E. Killen, Iman-Ruth (Mohamed) Harrak, Patrick (Anne) Killen, Colleen (Tina) Killen; grandchildren Michael, Sean M.,and their mother Connie Killen, Ahmed, Rashid, Kauthar, Zakaria, Mary Katherine, Daniel Patrick; sisters Margaret Catalano, Sr. Joan Killen; a brother James Killen and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.


John was pre-deceased by his brothers, Charles, Arthur, and William Killen.

JUANITA BAILEY LADUE
GORHAM —  Juanita Bailey LaDue, 83, of Turner Road, died  peacefully Thursday December 13, 2007, at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, with her family at her side.


Friends called Monday, Dec. 17 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Reed Corners Federated Church. Funeral services followed at 7 p.m. at the church. Pastor Debbie Kamm officiated. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.


The family asks that donations be made in her honor to the Reed Corners Federated Church, 4030 Rte. 247, Canandaigua, NY 14424.


Born in Rushville, Juanita was the daughter of Roy and Elena Peckham Pike. She was an active member of the Reed Corners Federated Church. Her hands that made countless meals and everything from wedding dresses to baby sweaters are now at rest.


Juanita was predeceased by her first husband, Merritt T. Bailey, and by her second husband, George J. LaDue.


She is survived by three children, Anne (Paul) Emerson, Melanie Clark and Kevin (Jill) Bailey; four step-children, Eddy (Lorraine) LaDue, Connie (Charles) Bagley, Laura (Patrick) Culbreth and Philip (Elaine) LaDue; and many grand- and great-grandchildren.

J. ALAN MADSEN
PENN YAN — J. Alan Madsen, 85, of 105 West Lake Road,  died December 13 at home.


Friends and family called from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 at Weldon Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass officiated by Fr. Robert Ring was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 17 at St. Michael's Church in Penn Yan. Burial was at St. Michael's Cemetery in Penn Yan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice or St. Michael's School.


Born July 20, 1922 in Oak Park, Ill., he was the son of Robert E. and Sophie Weidelman Madsen.


He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific, and received a Purple Heart.


He was a steam fitter with Local 13 in Rochester. He was a member of the Elks Club and St. Michael's Church. He loved baseball and played for many local teams. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture.


He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joanne; son Eric of Charleston, S. C.; daughter Ellen Uhal of Ontario; grandchildren Heather (Ryan) Kather of Cicero and Steven (Krystal Carr) Stockton of Rochester; sisters Donna Madsen and Jean Friebele of Illinois and Marilyn Csoti of California.


He was predeceased by a daughter Colleen, son Mark, brother Robert and sister Mildred.

CLINTON E. RICE
PENN YAN — Clinton E. Rice, age 88, of Hutton St., Penn Yan died Wednesday,

December 12, 2007 at Soldier’s & Sailor’s Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan.


Friends and family called on Friday, Dec. 14 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan from 4 to 7 p.m.  His funeral service was held on Saturday, Dec.15, 2007 at 10 a.m. with Rev. K. Wayne Butler, officiating.  Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.


Memorials may be made to the Penn Yan Volunteer Fire Dept., 125 Elm St., Penn Yan, NY  14527 or to Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 272, Penn Yan, NY  14527.
Clinton was born in Penn Yan on Jan. 23, 1919 the son of the late Jay and Elizabeth Fear Rice.  He served in the US Army during WWII and retired as the street superintendent of the Village of Penn Yan in 1990 after 41 years of service.  Clint was a 60 year member of the Penn Yan Volunteer Fire Dept. and was Fire Chief from 1957-59.  He also joined the Hydrant Hose Co. in 1946.  He was a life member of the Penn Yan VFW Post 745 and the IOOF.  He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie Rice in 1978.


He is survived by his daughter, Gail (Frank) Grant of Fairport; son, Jeffrey J. (Patty) Rice of Frostburg, Md.; grandsons Joshua Grant of Fairport, Jeremy (Ashley) Rice and Jason Rice of Frostburg, Md.; and very close friend Barbara Sutherland.

JAMES F. ROBINSON
PAINTED POST — James F. Robinson, 69, Stokes Park on Meads Creek Road in Painted Post, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at his home.


He was born June 28, 1938 in Canandaigua to Kenneth G. and Madeline A. (Smith) Robinson.  He married Caroline Schwartz in 1959 in Rushville.  He was a truck operator for the towns of Potter and Middlesex. He also worked as a full-time bus driver for the Marcus Whitman School District.


He is survived by his wife: Caroline Schwartz; one daughter: Linda (Mark) Boothby of Summerville, S.C.; and three sons: James D. (Trina) Robinson of Surgoinsville, Tenn.,
Michael (Wanda) Robinson of Kingsport, Tenn., and John (Melissa) Robinson of Church Hill, Tenn.; granddaughters: Jessica and Mikayla; grandsons Christopher (Rachael), Codi, Tyler, Jeremy, Aaron and Tommy; a great-granddaughter: Kierstin and great-grandson: Keaton. He also is survived by five brothers and four sisters, and nieces and nephews.


A Memorial Service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at Victory Highway Wesleyan Church, 150 Victory Highway in Painted Post with Pastor Steve McEwen officiating.  Burial will be in Nettle Valley Cemetery.
