MARY ELLEN BALLMAN
PENN YAN — Mary Ellen Ballman, 85, of Penn Yan, died Tuesday, April 28 in Kindred Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4 at Weldon Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Yates County Humane Society.
Mary was born Nov. 7, 1923, the daughter of John and Sarah Coon Clark. She had a great love of animals.

She is survived by her children, David Ballman of Nebraska, Seven Ballman of Kansas, Ronald and Howard Ballman of MIchigan, Nancy Russ of Pa., Diane Christmen, Patty Hinson and Pamela Ballman, all of Michigan and Megan Ballman of Penn Yan; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

WARREN E. BEEBE
PENN YAN — Warren E. Beebe, 83, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Penn Yan.

Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan.  His funeral will be held immediately follow at the funeral home with the Rev. K. Wayne Butler officiating.

Memorial donations may be made in Warren’s memory to the Humane Society of Yates County, 1216 Rte 14A, Penn Yan, NY  14527.

Warren was born in Penn Yan on March 17, 1926, the son of Henry and Mary Beebe.  Warren married his wife, Margaret, on June 30, 1950.  He was employed until retirement as a welder with Coach and Equipment in Penn Yan.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 and was a long time member of the Penn Yan Moose Lodge.

Warren is survived by his children, Donald W. (Lynda) Beebe of Westfield and Catherine (Dwight) James of Bellona; grandchildren, Allison (Jeff) Mason of Latrobe, Pa. and their children, Aidan and Julia Mason; Karie (Chris) Colburn of Phoenix, Ariz. and their daughter, Alyssa Colburn,; Carissa and Robert James of Bellona. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Margaret on March 25, 1998; and his brothers, Donald and Gerald Beebe.

GENEVA — Mary E. Earl, 93, formerly of Wabash Road and Seneca Lake Terrace, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 4 at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5 at the funeral home. Burial was in Bellona Cemetery.

Mrs. Earl was a life-time member of the Seneca #9 Presbyterian Church, and participated in the Foster Grandparents Program in the Geneva City Schools. She had worked at Geneva General Hospital.

She is survived by one son, E. Henry (Doris) Earl; one daughter, Helen Maynard; seven grandchildren, Clifford (Terese) Earl, James Earl, Greg (Natalia) Maynard, Jeff Maynard, Judy (Jim) Demharter, Daniel (Holly) Livermore and Bruce (Donna) Lynd; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ollie Teece; and one nephew, Jack (Phyllis) Teece.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin L. Earl; her daughter, Jacquelyn Earl; her brother, John Teece; and her parents Henry and Minnie Teece.

R. HARVEY GAGE
COTTAGE CITY (Canandaigua) — R. Harvey Gage passed away April 29, 2009, after a long illness.

Family and friends may call Saturday, May 2 at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 3 at the United Methodist Church in  Rushville.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; children, John (Lorri) Diggory, James Gage, Mark (Victoria Love) Diggory and Mariann (Craig) Gerber; mother-in-law, Kathryn Bancroft; grandchildren, Miranda, Jordan, Ariana, and Leila; sisters, Marion (John) Fladd, Catherine (Thomas) Gray, Patricia Grahame, and Donna Ratzel; brother, Walter (Joan) Gage; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Gage; and many devoted nieces and nephews.

Harvey was a Life Member of Lions International (Rushville); recipient of the Melvin Jones Award for dedicated humanitarian service and the Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award. Trustee and a former Choir Director of Cottage City United Church. He was a Board of Education Member (1980-83) for the Marcus Whitman Central School District.

He was predeceased by his parents, G. Dewey and Ruby Gage; and his brother, Raymond Gage.

LUCILLE M. GARDNER
BENTON — Lucille M. Gardner, 87, of Bath, died December 30, 2008 in Stuart, Fla.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday May 9, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Fagan’s Funeral Home in Bath and at 2 p.m. at the Benton United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Benton Cemetery.
She was born in Benton, on Dec. 18, 1921 the daughter of Frank and Vera Seymour Barden.

Formerly of Penn Yan, Mr. and Mrs. Gardner moved to Bath in 1962. Lucille was a graduate of Haverling High School in Bath and the Rochester Business Institute.  She was a member of the Bath Country Club, Republican Women’s Club and the Benton United Methodist Church.  She worked as a legal secretary for many local Bath attorneys and for the District Attorney in Yates County, Lyman Smith.

She is survived by her husband Laurence C. Gardner, daughter Laurie S. (Huburt) Tisdale of Jacksonville, N.C.,  son, Dean Gardner of Dublin, Ohio, five grandchildren, Mariam, Mollie and William Tisdale, Bethany Gehring and Jason Gardner, two great-grandchildren and two brothers, Gerald Barden of Dansville, and Kenneth Barden of Vallejo, Calif.and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Slaight.

ELIZABETH ANN NORTHRUP
PENN YAN — Elizabeth Ann Northrup, 82, of North Main St., Penn Yan passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Penn Yan.

Friends and family may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan.  A memorial service celebrating her life will be held immediately following at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elizabeth was born in Syracuse on June 22, 1926.  She worked for A/C Delco in Rochester during WWII. She married her husband, Charles R. Northrup, in 1945 after he return home from service in Italy. 

Elizabeth was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charles R. Northrup; her children, Jeannine Deacon, Patricia Northrup and Charles Northrup; grandchildren, Jason (Jamie), Jacob, Christopher (Theresa), Brie (Freddie), and Noah (Heather); great-grandchildren, Adam, Jonas, and Kelsa; her sister, Patricia (Arnold) Sprague; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents; her son, Fred Northrup; brother, Robert Elliott; and a sister, Barbara Levitas.

DONALD E. RACE

Donald E. Race, 81, of Walnut St., Penn Yan died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 1 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 East Elm St., Penn Yan.  His funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Vanamen officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Humane Society of Yates County, 1216 Route 14A, Penn Yan, NY, 14527.

Don was born June 13, 1927 in Penn Yan,  the son of Milton G. and Oral E. Champion Race. Don was self-employed, working on auto body repairs, and spent time turning a Cadillac into an El Camino. Don was a talented carpenter, and he enjoyed making furniture and cabinets.

Donald is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anna Race; children, Donald (Louise) Race, La Rue (Angie) Hotaling, Roger Race, Pandora (Bob) Lechner, Darrin Race, and Jeanne Coriano;  20 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; brother, Mike (Patty) Race; sister, Norma (Bill) Lunny; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his cat Precious.
