The Hon. Donald J. Corbett Jr., 74, formerly of Rochester, died peacefully at home July 30, 2010 after a four year struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

Don’s Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Transfiguration, 50 W. Bloomfield Road, Pittsford, NY 14534 at 11 a.m. Aug. 4. Interment will be at St Michael’s Cemetery, Penn Yan at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Children Awaiting Parents (CAP) 595 Blossom Rd, Suite 306, Rochester, NY 14610; Millie’s Pantry PO Box 734, Penn Yan NY 14527 or Keuka Comfort Care Home 35 Route 54, Penn Yan NY 14527.

He was born and lived his whole life in the Rochester area, apart from his education at Notre Dame University and Albany Law School. His pursuits were many and his work brought him into many arenas, notably the judiciary where he spent eight years in the Family Court, also serving as Supervising Judge, followed by 20 years on the New York State Court of Claims, where he was the Presiding Judge for eight years. He retired in 2003. Over the years, he worked with the Rochester Housing Authority, Children Awaiting Parents (CAP) national adoption listing service and the Rochester Boys Club. His interest in promoting women in the court system was renowned and he received accolades from the National Council of Jewish Women and the Greater Rochester Association of Women Attorneys.

Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara; his daughters, Kimberly (Jason) and Meg Corbett-Bates; grandchildren, Jordan, Patrick, Scarlett and Clayton; his sister, Kathleen; brothers, Richard, David and James; brother-in- law, David (Jacqueline); aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
