JOHN R. LOREE
PENN YAN — John R. Loree, age 71, of Earls Hill Road, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan.
Friends called Friday, Feb. 8 from 11 to 1 p.m. at the Bellona Presbyterian Church. A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Bellona Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bellona Presbyterian Church, the Bluff Point United Methodist Church, the Bellona Fire Dept., or Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital.
John was born in Geneva on Aug. 23, 1936. He was the son of the late Claude and Olive Long Loree. John served in the U. S. Army from 1957 to 1958, and was a self-employed farmer.
John was a member of the Penn Yan Moose Club. He was a John Deere enthusiast, and a member of the Finger Lakes 2-Cylinder Club. He was active in the Bellona Presbyterian Church and the Bluff Point Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Charles) Wheeler and Pamela (Michael) Slentz; one son, James (Ann Marie) Loree; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Danielle) Slentz, Cassie Slentz, Joshua Wheeler, Olivia Wheeler and Justin Slentz; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Rae; two sisters, Freda (Albert) Mihic, and Martha (Leon) Adams; several nieces and nephews; companion, Beverly Dean; her daughters, Sherry (Dave) Calvetti and Shelly (Gene) Webster; Beverly’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren; long-time friend, Henry (Virginia) Hickman; and his former wife, Ann E. Loree.
Arrangements were by the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham.
HELEN S. TIETJEN
ALUEQUERQUE, N.M. — Helen S. Tietjen, age 79, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Himrod, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Care Free Living Center in Albuquerque.
Friends and family may call at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, on Saturday, Feb.16 from 11 am to noon, where funeral services for Helen will immediately follow at noon, with Father James Ayers officiating. Interment will be at Grove Mount Cemetery in Himrod.
Helen was born on May 31, 1928 in Detroit, Mich.,the daughter of the late James and Martha Leach Stewart. She graduated from St. Barnabas School of Nursing, Newark, N.J. as a registered nurse and practiced nursing throughout her life prior to retirement. In recent years, she enjoyed teaching cooking and sewing to students at Freedom Village USA in Lakemont. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Rev. Herbert B. Tietjen on Aug. 14, 2006.
Helen is survived by her childern, Paula (William Mershon) Tietjen of Albuquerque, N.M., Susan (William) Dorman of Lancaster, Pa., and Stewart (Tracey) Tietjen of Tijeras, N.M.; grandchildren, James Snevily, Jennifer, Ryan, and Anne Dorman, Amelia, Adam, Audrey, Tara, Alisa, Ananias, and Alex Tietjen.
