L. Marie Comfort, 80, of Lyons, formerly of Lawrence Street, Penn Yan, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital in Newark.
Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held immediately following at the funeral home at 8 p.m. with the Rev. K. Wayne Butler, officiating. Private interment will be at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira.

Marie was born in Elmira on Dec. 27, 1929, the daughter of Samuel and Sarah Campbell. She was employed prior to retirement with the Penn Yan Boat Co. and was a home health worker in Penn Yan. She was a member of the Elmira Auxiliary Police, was a founding member of the Southport Fire Dept., the Himrod Fireman’s Auxiliary and was active with the Himrod 4-H Club. Marie lived her life for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her children, Mary Dorene Kerrick, Arlene (Tim Kinsey) Leiter, Shirley (George) Hannan, Sharon (Stanley) Heath, Rodney Lee (Catherine), Robert, James, Albert and Paul Comfort; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Georgia Cornell and Charlotte Barnes.
In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her husband, Leo Comfort; sons, Marty and Gary Comfort; daughter, Judy Comfort; grandson, Rodney Comfort Jr.; great-granddaughter, Lynne Michelle Kerrick; son-in-law, Clair Kerrick Sr.; daughter-in-law, Pam Comfort; her sisters, Blanche, Doris and Betty; and her brother, Clarence.
