A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. March 6 at the First Presbyterian Church of Penn Yan. The service will be followed by a luncheon reception.

Sophia was born in Brooklyn and developed close friends in a number of places she called home, including Long Island, Keuka Park, and Sun City West, Ariz.

Fashion design, sewing and knitting were her creative passions.

While living in Arizona for 25 years, she gave her time and money to a nursing home serving the Native American population. She befriended a multiple-amputee resident and they shared  the love of art.

Sophia is survived by her son, Harvey (Heath) Haynes, a daughter, Nancy (Jack) Halteman, a son-in-law, Bill Turner, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey Haynes and her daughter, Cheryl Turner.
