John S. Armstrong
PENN YAN — John S. Armstrong, 84, formerly of Bluff Point, died peacefully at home Feb. 12.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in the future.
John was born July 19, 1923 in Albany to Leroy and Margaret (Bennett) Armstrong. He was a plumber and member of Local 13 Rochester Plumbers and Steamfitters.
He served in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the Bluff Point Methodist Church, Elks BPOE 1722, Moose Club and Penn Yan American Legion. He was an avid bowler.
He worked in local industrial projects for 50 years.
He is survived by two sons, James F. (Sharon) Armstrong of East Syracuse and John S. (Linda) Armstrong of Baldwinsville; three daughters, Sara (Bart) Power of Scottsville, Martha (Peter) Puhak of Canandaigua and Deborrah Nanuseski of Albion; a brother, Robert F. Armstrong of Richland, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers Paul and Leroy and sisters Louise and Ann.
Danny Lee "Dan" Bailey
PENN YAN — Danny Lee “Dan” Bailey, 69 of Penn Yan, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Strong Hospital in Rochester, following a long illness.
Friends and family attended his calling hours on Monday, Feb. 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. Dan’s service followed calling hours at 5 p.m. with Rev. Aileen Robins officiating.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital Fund for the Cardiac Rehab program or the Emergency Room Building Fund, care of Finger Lakes Health Foundation, 196 North Street, Geneva, NY 14456.
Dan was born in Fairmont, W. Va., on April 2, 1938, where he lived until his early teens. He was a proud graduate of Penn Yan Academy, class of 1956. After living in Ohio, where he married, he returned with his wife to Penn Yan to raise their children.
He was a successful entrepreneur and business owner and enjoyed the many people with whom he worked. Dan loved being in and around the water throughout his life and enjoyed many years with friends and family on Keuka Lake and recently on Seneca Lake. Dan was a racing enthusiast, having worked at a number of motor sports tracks in his early years, including Daytona Beach prior to the construction of the speedway.
Throughout his life he was supportive of his children, their families, and their friends. He donated many hours and materials for homecoming floats, stage sets, after-prom breakfasts, moving, storage, home additions, and home building. In recent years he traveled frequently to visit his out-of-town grandchildren, and attended numerous performances, soccer matches, and baseball/softball games cheering on all of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Angela Bailey of Penn Yan; his children and their spouses, Kristin and Matt Houle of Placerville, Idaho; Kara and Robert Calder of Elkridge, Md., and Daniel and Crystal Bailey of Penn Yan; and his five grandchildren, Rachel Houle, Connor and Elyse Calder, and Rebecca and Ryan Bailey.
He is also survived by his mother, Harriet Gattain Bailey, his sister Nancy (James) Prunty both of Cleveland, Ohio, his wife’s sister Kathryn Dovich of Warren, Ohio, and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his brother, Larry in 1948 and his father Albert Guy Bailey in 1991.

Alice E. Braman
PENN YAN — Alice E. Braman, 93, of Penn Yan died Feb. 13 at The Homestead.
There were no calling hours. A funeral was held at Weldon Funeral Home, at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 17 with the Rev. Gerald Vanaman officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.
Memorials may be made to the Activities Department at The Homestead.
Alice was born in Guyanoga on July 7, 1914 to Jasper and Nellie (Snyder) Crofoot. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Earl (Lois) Braman of Penn Yan; daughters Nellie Drumm of Penn Yan and Evelyn VanEtten of Ithaca; four grandsons and three granddaughters, especially Alyce and Gary Watkins and Genny and Doug Hillman, two step-grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren, four step great great grandchildren, five nieces and two nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Earl J. Braman.
JoAnn Brewster
AUBURN — JoAnn Brewster Gee, 64, of McIntosh Drive, Auburn died at her home on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 with her family by her side.
Visiting hours were held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday Feb. 16 at Langham Funeral Home, 75 E. Genesee St., Auburn. A funeral service followed at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dunbar officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to University Hospital Regional Oncology Center, 750 E. Adams St., Syracuse, NY 13210 in her memory.
JoAnn enjoyed and cherished the time spent at home caring for her family and was a great advocate for people with disabilities.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Calvin E. Gee of Auburn; two sons, Michael Allan (Sherri) Gee of California and John Calvin (Rose) Gee of Nebraska; a daughter, Deborah Ann Gee of Auburn; a brother Richard Brewster of Oregon; two sisters, Margaret Breckenridge of Penn Yan and Eleanor Alander (Frank) of Oregon; five grandchildren Rose Marie, Calvin, Raven, Mike and Aubrey Gee; cousins Betty and Walt Johnson, Harold and Mary Jane Kerrick and many other cousins and several nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was predeceased by her mother Grace Brewster Dean and by her step-father Percy Albert Dean.
Donald G. Lee
STANLEY — Donald G. Lee, 80, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Penn Yan Manor.
Friends called Saturday, Feb. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. Funeral services followed at 4 p.m. Rev. Lawson Huck officiated. Burial will be in Little Church Cemetery.

Don was born Sept. 22, 1927 in Rushville. He was the son of Kenneth and Margaret LaDue Lee. He was a member of the Gorham United Methodist Church. Don retired from Mobil Chemical in 1990.
Don is survived by his wife, Germaine Howard Lee; two children, Terry (Joyce) Lee, and Diane Patton; seven grandchildren, Sarah Wimer, Michael Lee, Ethan Lee, Andrew Patton, Shawna Coleing, Robert Patton and Timothy Lee; four great-grandchildren, Abbey and Caleb Lee and John and Audrey Wimer; two sisters, Linda (Daniel) Hillman and Bonnie (Art) Knopf; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey Andrews Lee; two brothers, Fenton Lee and Rodney Lee.
Phyllis A. Renshaw
DUNDEE — Phyllis A. Renshaw, 73, of Dundee, died Monday February 11, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Elmira.
Friends called from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee; where a funeral service was held at the conclusion of calling hours at 11 a.m. Friday with Elder Joe Sevier officiating. Burial will be in Grove Mount Cemetery, Himrod, NY in the spring.

Phyllis was born May 19, 1934 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late John L. and Charlotte Thompson Strait. She has lived locally since 1969, previously of Virginia. Retired from Mercury Aircraft, in Hammondsport; she worked part time at the Windmill Farm and Craft Market for many years.
A loving mother and grandmother; she is survived by her daughter Joy A. (John) Fuller of Dundee; five grandchildren, Kerry A. Fuller of Waterloo, Holly L. (Scott) Stock of Dundee, Melanie R. (Derrick) Cronk of Dundee, Breyanna L. Renshaw and Jonathon M. Renshaw both of Pine City; six great grandchildren; her former husband and father of her children Leon B. Renshaw of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister Olive P. (Richard) Hammond of Homosassa, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by a son Gary Lee Renshaw on Feb. 21, 1997, and a brother Joseph Strait; and a sister Pearl DePauw.
Mildred M. Fingar Shumaker
PENN YAN — Mildred M. Fingar Shumaker, 96, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Homestead Nursing Home.
Family and friends called on Tuesday, Feb.19 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527. Mildred’s service followed at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Branchport Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Mildred’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, 435 E. Mildred was born on October 8, 1911 in Bluff Point, the daughter of James and Edith Rogers Orr. She worked and retired after 25 years from Gold Seal Winery in Hammondsport. Mildred also ran a small vineyard farm on Bluff Point. Her family was her life.
She is survived by her children, Burton E. (Gail) Fingar, Bertha (George) Havens; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Carla) Fingar, Kim (Rick) Soares, Barry (Karen) Fingar, Tammy (Bill) Boulter, Jeanne Marshall, Ken Kress, David Havens and ten great-grandchildren. Mildred was predeceased by her husbands Kenneth Fingar in 1962 and Clifford Shumaker in 1977, infant son, Elden Fingar in 1934 and her grandson, Mark Kress in 1966.

Carl S. Tomion
STANLEY – Carl S. Tomion, 49, died on February 11, 2008 after a long, hard battle with cancer.
He was always a happy man, according to his family.
Friends called Friday, Feb. 15 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Carl loved life fast and hard. He loved his Harley and his riding buddies. He also enjoyed hunting and being a mechanic with the Ontario County Highway Dept. for 17 years.
He is survived by his parents, Jack and Marion Drew Tomion; two brothers, Alan (Crystal) Tomion and Bruce (Beth) Tomion; three sisters, Janet (Grant) Kozisky, Joan (Dale Lane) Tomion, and Gail (Gary) Rindfleisch; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and his dogs, Jesse and Princess (his two best girls).
He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Jean Tomion Race; his grandparents, Merrill and Doris Scott Tomion and Fred and Ethel Krieger Drew;
