BETTY BREWER
CENTRAL SQUARE — Betty Brewer, 81, of Central Square, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 with her family by her side.
Calling hours were held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday Jan. 14, 2008 at Traub Funeral Home, 684 N. Main Street, Central Square. A funeral service followed at 7 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, N.Y. 13208.
Betty was a devoted wife and mother who opened her home to many children throughout her life.
She is survived by her children Linda Modrall, Richard Brewer and Sherry Huntley; five grandchildren, Melissa (Leanna) Modrall, Chaz Brewer, Cory Brewer, Erica Huntley and Katrina Fairfield; her "sister" Dee Davis and her loving cat, Charlie.
Betty was pre-deceased by her husband, Edward W. Brewer in 2001, her granddaughter Alicia Marie Brewer in 1985 and her brother Richard DeLand in 2007.

NORMAN L. FINGAR
PENN YAN — Norman L. Fingar, 78, of Skyline Drive, died January 11, 2008 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan.
Calling hours were held arom 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan. A funeral service followed at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at the Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Jenks officiating. Burial was in Branchport Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Branchport Fire Department, American Lung Association and Alzheimer's Association.
Born Dec. 25, 1929 in the town of Barrington, he was the son of Robert and Marie (Scott) Fingar.
He was a vineyardist on Bluff Point.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rachel, sons, Doug (Terry) Fingar of Penn Yan; David (Wendy) Fingar of Penn Yan; Kevin (Pam) Fingar of Branchport; and Brian Fingar of Penn Yan; a daughter Patricia (Philip) Strong of Penn Yan; brothers Gordon (Shirley) Fingar of Penn Yan; Gerald (Joan) Fingar of Rochester; and Dorwin (Blanche) Fingar of Bluff Point;  a sister, Joyce (Charles) Sedgewick of Florida; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

 

HELEN C. MILLS
PENN YAN — Helen C. Mills, 87, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2007 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center in Elmira.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Penn Yan with Father John Gathanyea officiating. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Penn Yan.  The family requests no flowers.  Memorials may be made in Helen’s name to St. Michael’s Parochial School. 
Helen was born on May 28, 1920, the daughter of the late Augustine and Jane Costello Colmey.  She was an alumna of St. Michael’s Parochial School, Penn Yan Academy and St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing.  Helen also completed advanced nursing and psychiatric coursework at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Louise DeMerillac Hospital, Niagara University, CCFL and Keuka College.  Her nursing career included positions at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira, Soldier’s and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan, Foster Hatch Medical Group in Penn Yan, US Veterans Hospitals in Canandaigua and Bath, and Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic.  Helen was a life long member of St. Michael’s Church. 
Helen is survived by her daughters Jane M. DeSmith, Ph.D. (David) of Fairport, and Virginia M. (Brendan) Curtin of Elmira,  seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Metz V. Mills in April 1995; daughter, Rita Mills Rhinehart in 1986; brother, Lt. John Colmey III in 1944 and sister, Mary Jane Hutchison in 2004.

FREDERICK H. OSWALD
CANANDAIGUA/PENN YAN – Frederick H. Oswald, died January 12, 2008 at age 89.
Calling hours were on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham.  The funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, East Swamp Road south of Gorham. Burial with military honors will follow at Shuman Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 514 E. Swamp Road, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Fred was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving from 1941 to 1945.
Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Thelma Blake Oswald; children, Shirley (Anthony) Estruch of Wayland, and James Oswald of Fowlerville; 6 grandchildren, James B. Oswald, Daniel G. Oswald, Rebekah Todd, Amanda J. Estruch, Wayne Oswald and Kevin Oswald; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lois Oswald, Betty (Wes) Sullivan, Beulah Tobler, Dorothy (Carl) Rodoni, and Wanda Lucas; brother-in-law, Duane (Darlene) Blake; cousins, Hubert (Doris) Hey and Mildred Hey; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by his brother, Wilson E. Oswald and sister, Lydia Oswald.


ELSIE Z. WEAVER
PENN YAN — Elsie Z. Weaver, 63, of Route 14A Penn Yan, died peacefully at her home January 9, 2008 after a lengthy illness.
Calling hours were held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13 at Weaver's Bike Shop. Her funeral was held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at the Benton Mennonite Church. Burial followed in the Benton Mennonite Cemetery.
The family requests no flowers.
Born in East Earl, Pa on Aug. 11, 1944 to Barton and Lydia Zimmerman Horst, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Aaron Weaver; sons A. Eugene (Joanne) Weaver of Lyons; Kenneth (Pauline) Weaver, of Penn Yan; James (Susan) Weaver of Bellona; Nelson (Carolyn) Weaver of Penn Yan; daughters Berneice (Elam) Rieff; Rosene (Nelson) Zimmerman; E. Marie (Allen) Hurst; Lucille (Lester) Rieff; Lisa (Edwin) Martin; all of Penn Yan and Susan (Curvin) Shirk of Rushville; four brothers,  seven sisters and 46 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Vera Fox.
