Edward M. Hawkins, 81, of Edgewater, Fla, formerly of Penn Yan, died Monday, March 8, 2010 at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

Born in Batavia,Mr. Hawkins, a retired construction supervisor and former owner of Penn Yan Plumbing, moved to Florida in 1990 from St. Croix, Virgin Islands. A member of New Smyrna Beach Men’s Garden Club, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting, and was a master craftsman. Mr. Hawkins loved his Corgi dog, Molly.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Maxine; a son, Michael (Ann), of Penn Yan; two daughters, Sue Shaw and Stacy (Harlan) Hutchins, all of Edgewater; a sister, Dorothy Hawkins of Batavia; a brother, Milton Hawkins of Batavia and three grandchildren, Jessie Shaw of Orlando, Fla., Amy Copeland of Jacksonville, Fla., and Richard Hawkins of Alaska.
