Stephen W. Fingar, 59, of Penn Yan passed away at Geneva General Hospital on Friday, February 17, 2012.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20 at Weldon Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 21. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Yates County, 1216 State Route 14A, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Stephen was born Dec. 7, 1952, the son of Cole and Virginia Schwehm Fingar. After graduating from Penn Yan Academy in 1971, he attended SUNY Brockport for two years. He then joined his dad with Finger Plumbing and Heating. He excelled in sports, especially varsity baseball and football and was an avid bowler. He was a great New York Yankee fan as well as an Oakland Raider fan.

He was a devoted son, brother and uncle, but for most, a loving father who spent his entire life in the Finger Lakes.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and pets.

Stephen is survived by two daughters, Katherine Fingar of Penn Yan and Jenna Fingar of Long Beach, N.Y.; two sister, Mary Kay (Kevin) McAvoy and Cindy Smart, both of Penn Yan; nieces Beth (Brian) Smith and Rebecca Smart; great niece and nephew Madaline and James Smith and his companion, Sally Patterson.

He was predeceased by a brother, Tim, a sister, Amy, and a brother-in-law, Jeff Smart.
