MARGARET A. BROWN

CRYSTAL BEACH- Margaret A. Brown, 91, died on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at F.F.Thompson Hospital.


Friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 23 at St. Mary’s Church in Rushville. Burial was in Overackers Cemetery, Town of Middlesex.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Canandaigua, NY 14424.


Margaret was born in East Bloomfield. She was the daughter of Frank and Maude Rayburn Andross and the widow of Gordon M. Brown, who died in 1969. She was also predeceased by her friend, Elizabeth M. Buffone, in 2004.


Margaret was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy. She graduated from the Southampton School of Nursing in 1938, and attended the University of Rochester for one year. Margaret was a registered nurse and was Night Supervisor at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, retiring in 1968. She was Director of Nursing at Elm Manor Nursing Home in Canandaigua for five years, retiring in 1973.


Margaret was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Rushville and the Rosary Society. She sponsored a child at St. Jude’s Research Hospital and operated a day-care nursery for three years.


She was active in the Crystal Beach community on the east shore of Canandaigua Lake, and was a member of the Crystal Beach Betterment Association and the Crystal Beach Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.


Margaret is survived by daughters, Mary Ellen (Thomas) Osbon of Canandaigua, Janet Brown of Canandaigua, Jane (Edward) Paciorek of Lima, Debbie Arduine of Auburn, Melissa E. Brown of Canandaigua, and Betty (Kenneth) Wimer of Honeoye Falls; son, Timothy (Rory) Roome of California; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and special friends, Annette Catallo, Florence Tambe, Connie Bennett, and Tim and Terri Hebding.


Her family extends a special thanks to the staff of  3 West at F.F.Thompson Hospital.

JANE E. GRABSKI

BRANCHPORT —Jane E. Grabski, age 70, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.


She is survived by her children, John Grabski, Kimberly Beatty, Elizabeth Garvin, Amy Eke and Jennifer Marx; 12 grandchildren: five great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Bates: and brother, George Rosko.


She was predeceased by her brother, Gordon Rosko.


Jane was well known for her boundless energy, optimism and uncommon dedication to her family.


She was proud to have descended from a long line of politicians, including one U.S.  senator, governor and Supreme Court Justice. She believed strongly in government service.


Jane was a passionate historian, conservationist, chef and antique collector.
She considered the entire world to be her garden.


There will be no calling hours.  Her service will be held privately at the convenience of her family.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1400 N. Winton Road, Rochester, NY 14609; or Leukemia Society of America, 5500 Main St., Buffalo, NY 14221.

DOROTHY K. LAFEVER

DUNDEE — Dorothy K. LaFever,  89, of Dundee, died Monday, February 25, 2008 at home.


There are no prior calling hours.  A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1 at the Dundee United Methodist Church, 35 Water St., Dundee with The Rev. Ann Hicks officiating.  Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee.


Memorial contributions may be made to Starkey United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 28, Dundee 14837 or the Dundee Emergency Squad, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY  14837.
Dorothy was born Jan. 4, 1919 in the town of Starkey, the daughter of Elbridge G. and Kathryn L. Potter Disbrow. 


She graduated from Dundee Central School in 1938.  On June 15, 1940 in Dundee, she married Malcolm N. LaFever; he passed away on Sept. 3, 2006.  A devoted wife, she helped her husband run their own turkey farm in Dundee.  Mrs. LaFever was a very active member of Starkey United Methodist Church; enjoyed the former Home Dem; and was very involved in many charities and fund raisers.


A loving mother and grandmother, who was very family oriented.  She is survived by two sons, Elbridge “Ebby” L. (Gladys) LaFever of Geneseo, and Thomas F. (Carol) LaFever of Dundee; five grandchildren, Malcolm (Rhonda) LaFever, John (Sue) LaFever, Matt LaFever; Cheri LaFever, and Tammi LaFever; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.


She was pre-deceased by a son Larry LaFever, three brothers; and two sisters.
Arrangements are by the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.

BARBARA CALDWELL MARTIN

RUSHVILLE — Barbara Caldwell Martin, died Sunday, February 24, 2008 at Hospeace House in Naples.


Friends may call Thursday, Feb. 28 from 2–4 and 7–9 p.m.    at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb.29 at the United Methodist Church in Rushville. Rev. Elizabeth Boesen will officiate. Burial will be in Rushville Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund, United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 98, Rushville, NY 14544; or to the Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 1, Middlesex, NY 14507.


Barb was born Jan. 15, 1928 in Canandaigua. She was the daughter of the late Homer and Bernadine Twitchell Brown. Barb was a life resident of Rushville.  She graduated from Middlesex Valley Central School in 1946 and attended Potsdam State College. She married Ralph Martin on August 24, 1946 in the Rushville Methodist Church.
Barb was a life member of the Rushville United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women, and the choir director for forty years. She was active on church committees and had been a Sunday School teacher.


Barb was active in her community. She volunteered at the Middlesex Valley School as an aide and was involved in a nursery program for several years. She worked on the school merger of Middlesex Valley and Gorham School Districts, forming the current Marcus Whitman Central School. She organized the 50th year reunion of the Middlesex Valley Central School, Class of 1946. She was a former member of Fen-o-go-wone Chapter OES.


She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Martin Tires in Rushville. She loved to travel with her husband, Ralph, who died on Dec. 4, 2003. She was an avid fan of her children and grand-children’s sport events.   


She is survived by three daughters, Carol (Ron) Swartwood, Debra Martin and Ruth Ann (Rick Sawyer) Reid; three sons, William (Bette) Martin, Paul Martin and Chris (Mary Mason) Martin; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Barry Ross) Martin, Nathan Swartwood, Corey Bryant, Josh Martin, Sarah Reid, Jared Martin and Noah Martin; one great-grandson, Ethan Swartwood; two sisters, Donna Bay and Sharon Jaynes; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bruce (Shirley) Martin, Lois (Graydon) Bailey, Betty Martin, Glenna (Bruce) Hughner; and many nieces and nephews.

ELSE SCHNEIDER

PENN YAN — Else Schneider, 103, of Penn Yan died February 25, 2008 at Penn Yan Manor.


There will be no calling hours. A funeral service with The Rev. Wayne Butler will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 29 at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan. Burial will be in City Hill Cemetery.


Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Penn Yan.


Born July 6, 1903 in Germany to Willy and Ana Grundke, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.


She was a very outgoing person and she enjoyed cross-stitching.


She is survived by a daughter, Helga (Siegfried) Poreda of Penn Yan; a grandson, Eric Poreda of Massechusetts; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lian of Vermont; and four great-grandchildren, William, Grace, Thomas and Holly.

THOMAS E. WILLIAMS

NAPA, CALIF. — Thomas E. Williams, 63, of Yountville, Calif., formerly of Penn Yan, and Savona, died December 15, 2007 at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, Calif.


Tom was born in Penn Yan, on Feb. 22, 1944 to John W. Williams and Wilhelmina (Buchholz) Williams. He attended school in Penn Yan and was a high school graduate of Savona Central School. He moved to California in 1962 and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1964.


He lived in Santa Rosa, Calif. for several years before moving to Yountville. Tom was very involved with the various veterans’ groups and social functions at the Veterans Home of California in Yountville. Survivors include sisters Jacquelyn (Williams) Graf of Novato, Calif., Nancy (Williams) Keaton of Novato, Calif. and Billie (Williams) van der Sterre of Corning.


Tom was predeceased by a sister, Virginia (Williams) Lama of San Rafael, Calif. A memorial service was held on Jan. 10, 2008 at Yountville Veterans Chapel.
Internment was private at Yountville Veterans Cemetery and there will also be an internment in Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan at the convenience of the family.
