Betty G. Perry Tongue, 79, of Sunset Trail, Wayne/Hammondsport, formerly of Hornby, passed away Sunday August 29, 2010 at Three Rivers Nursing Home in Painted Post.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water St., Dundee; where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3. Burial will follow in Tyrone Union Cemetery, Tyrone.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wayne Fire Department, P.O. Box 91, Wayne, NY 14893.

Betty was born Nov. 15, 1930 in Knoxville, Pa., the daughter of Arnold and Blanche Miller Perry. On Dec. 4, 1948 in Painted Post, she married Ernest L. Tongue; who passed away on July 26, 2000. She was a cook for over 20 years at the Watson Homestead, in Painted Post. She was a former member of the Hornby Presbyterian Church; and the Hornby Grange. She retired in 1982; and moved with her husband to the banks of Waneta Lake, where she enjoyed gardening and all kinds of crafts.

She is survived by one son Ernest “Skip” (Gail) Tongue Jr. of Wayne, five daughters, Suzanne (Harold) Hazzard of Hammondsport, Linda (Michael) Brewer of Woodhull, Debora (Leon) Wilson of Hornby, Kathy (Billy) Thomas of Painted Post, and Christine (Michael Mandeville) Snyder of Waverly; three sisters, Ella Preston, Ruth (Phil) Arduini, and Wanda Matthews; a brother, John Perry; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased a son, Steven, in 1996, a daughter, Carol Dunn, in 2007, a brother, Fred Perry, and two sisters, Shirley Hunter and Ethel Long.
